Carol Downing attends reunion of Leslie Bell Singers in Canada
Carol Downing, Barbee Lake, attended the Leslie Bell Singers, International annual reunion held recently at Toronto, Canada. Carol, a former member of the Leslie Bell Singers, hadn’t seen or heard from some members of the group for 33 years. The all-female a cappella choir was organized in 1939 by Dr. Leslie Bell, a professor of music at the University of Toronto. All the music had to be sung from

10 YEARS AGO, JULY 4. 1979 Linda Stookey led group singing for the June meeting of Efficient Homemakers Club. The ladies met recently in the home of Betty Lou Shock. She was assisted by Evelyn Bowser. Gail Martin was hostess for the June 26 meeting of Golden April Extension Homemakers Club. Pauline Gunkel was hostess for the June 27 meeting of Tippecanoe Township Hobby Club. Kathleen Weghorst demonstrated how to make button and bead necklaces. The Warner Southern Singers presented a program of music on July 1 following the evening worship service at North Webster Church of God. On Father’s Day, members of Efficient Homemakers Club and their husbands attended Worship in the Round at the Wagon Wheel Playhouse, Warsaw. Shirley Smith, Ruth Boyer and Mary Lee Willman were Friday luncheon guests in the home of Virginia Miner and Wilma Scott, Warsaw.
Motorcycle hits rear of moped, no injuries
The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department investigated the following accidents in the Lakeland area over the past week. Kerry A. Amburgy, 17, 298E Levi Lee Road, Warsaw, complained of pain to her lower leg following a two-vehicle accident Friday, June 30. at 9:55 p.m., on CR 100E north of CR 350 N. Daniel Coon, 22, r 1 box 194 C, Leesburg, was traveling north on his 1977 Honda Gold Wing motorcycle when he hit the rear of Amburgy's 1988 Honda Elite moped. JUNE 27 A garage service was called for the owners of a vehicle that was having mechanical troubles at the railroad tracks on SR 13. An officer went check on the problem before asking that a mechanic come to the location. The mechanic stated it would be at least one-half hour before getting to that location The dispatcher informed a caller where a person had been taken by the emergency medical service after the caller requested said information WEDNESDAY. JUNE 28 A conservation officer was called to the bridge on Pickwick Road after a person reported a vehicle possibly dumping a substance into the water The conservation officer reported the operator of the vehicle was pumping water, not dumping No report was made by the police following a property damage accident on South Hun tington Street. Devotions were given by Mrs. Rufus Miner during the June 27 meeting of Rural Neighbors Extension Homemakers Club. Her topic was "Part of God's Plan.” The ladies met in the home of Mrs. Fred Breyer. 20 YEARS AGO, JULY 2, 1969 The first school of Christian Missions of North Indiana Conference, bringing together parts of three former conference opened Sunday evening, June 22, at Epworth Forest. Several youth from the Church of God are taking part in the choir this week at Winona Lake Youth for Christ Convention. There will be meetings each evening in the Billy Sunday Tabernacle. FRIDAY, JUNE 30 Kosciusko County requested a Syracuse officer go to Waco Drive, south of Syracuse and investigate a property damage accident. Kids, apparently fighting on South Huntington Street, took off from the area before police arrived: A call was received from a person requesting an officer on South Huntington Street where kids were fighting. Five minutes later the officer reported the kids had taken off. SATURDAY. Golf clubs, stereo, cactus, eyeglasses among items stolen
Syracuse Police were notified of a number of thefts and vandalisms last week. Police also investigated a number of accidents. John Auer, Syracuse, reported the theft of his 1987 Pontiac Grand Am at 7:15 a.m., Saturday, July 1. The vehicle was parked in the driveway of his
Damage to both vehicles was estimated up to $2,500 each. Further information on the accident was not available. A Warsaw teen was not injured when he fell asleep while driving early Monday, June 26. The accident occurred at 1:50 a. m., on SR 15 north of Levi Lee Road. Ruben Reyna, 16,715 N. Park Ave., Warsaw, was driving a 1985 Renault south on SR 15 when he fell asleep. The car went off the road and struck a Northern Indiana Public Service Company utility pole. Damage to the car was estimated up to $2,500. No damage was reported to the pole.
Johnson Bay area. A caller was asked to try and notify the street/water department after calling the dispatcher. The caller reported that the water on Baltimore Street is milky looking. SUNDAY. JULY 2 A propane gas leak was taken care of after a business was notified. The dispatcher received a call from a resident on CR 1100 N that he had a propane leak. The caller was given the telephone number for Blue Flame. The same person called back 29 minutes later and reported that the leak was worse. The fire chief went to the location after the dispatcher could not contact Milford. The dispatcher also notified Blue Flame through the emergency telephone number. When the fire chief arrived he reported that the valve on the tank was off and was told that an employee with Blue Flame was enroute to that location. The sheriff's department notified Syracuse of a stranded pontoon boat in the middle of the lake. Three minutes after the Lake Patrol officer was notified he reported not seeing a pontoon, but continued looking- Later he reported having the pontoon close the Johnson's Bay.

Lakeland Quilt Club meets near Benton
The June 26 meeting of Lakeland Quilt Club was held at the “Meeting Barn,” owned by Mr. and Mrs. Don Parcell, near Benton. Wanetta Jones was hostess for the day. Members of the Puzzle Quilters Club, New Paris, were guests. Wilma Plotner gave the opening introductions. Jessie Wainscott called the roll and gave the treasurer’s report. Club pins, with a Dresden plate logo in shades of blue and dusty pink displaying the club name, were distributed. Additional pins are to be sold for fund raising. The upcoming club trip to In-

The theft of a four to five-foot tall cactus was reported to police by Craig Eby, Syracuse, at 1:15 p.m., Sunday, July 2. Eby told police that the potted cactus was taken from the front porch of his mother's home at 406 North Harrison Street the evening of July 1. The cactus was carried 75 feet from the home, dumped out of the pot and carried off. Eye glasses were reported stolen from Lakeside Park by Kevin Black, Syracuse, on Saturday, July 1. Black notified police atß:22p.m. William Orr, Waterloo, reported to police a boat cover was either lost or stolen on Saturday, July 1. Orr told police the cover was placed in the bottom of his 1989 Rinker Capata boat with a pole on top of the cover. Orr was stopped south of the Sailßoat Place by a motorist who stated the cover had blown out of the boat. Orr and his wife searched the area but could not locate the cover. The cover is valued at SSOO. Debra Geisleman, Syracuse, notified police Friday, June 30, that someone had removed an Albino female ferrett from its cage at her home. The theft occurred between 6 a.m. and 12 noon on Friday. The value of the animal is estimated up to SBO. A thief or thieves entered a locked vehicle and stole stereo equipment from a 1979 Oldsmobile owned by Jason J. Freel, Syracuse. Free reported the theft Wednesday, June 29. The stereo and equipment is valued at $1,300. Lynn Krull, Goshen, notified police on Sunday. July 2, that an object thrown from another vehicle broke the left rear window on his vehicle. Krull stated he was traveling south on SR 13 in his 1985 GMC Jimmy when occupants of a northbound vehicle threw something out of the vehicle. The object struck the window. breaking it. The amount of damage was not available. Guiff was driving a 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo when it struck a 1988 Ford EXP driven by Amy E. Moist, 20, Goshen. Guiff was turning west onto Chicago Street from SR 13 and did not see the Moist vehicle. An unidentified car at the stop sign blocked the view of both drivers from seeing the other. Damage was estimated up to SI,OOO to Guiff s car and up to $2,500 to Moist's car. Driver inattention was the cause of a two-vehicle accident Sunday, July 2, at 11:28 p.m., at Palm Drive, west of South Koko Drive. Dale R. Rhodes, 26, Syracuse, had left McDonald’s Restaurant in his 1981 Buick Skylark. As he was driving east on Palm Drive, eating a sandwich, his vehicle went off the road and hit the rear of a parked 1985 Ford Mustang. The owner of the Mustang, John A. Richards, Spencerville, was not in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Damage to both vehicles was estimated up to $2,500 each. A 1974 American Motors Ambassador struck a 1971 Oldsmobile in a backing accident Saturday, July 1,, at 11:44 a m. The accident was in the parking lot at Kale Island Bait Shop. Lavern Myers, 59, Goshen, was the driver of the Ambassador. The Oldsmobile is registered to John G. Hamilton, Fort Wayne. There was no damage to Myers' vehicle and up to SI,OOO to Hamilton's car. Police were called to investigate a car/deer accident Friday, June 30, at 11:51 a.m., on SR 13 north of Waco Drive. Norb Schaefer, 59, Indianapolis, was traveling north on SR 13 in his 1988 Jaguar XJ6 when a doe ran out from the west side of the road into the path of his vehicle. Damage was estimated up to SI,OOO to the Jaguar. Driver inattention and improper turning was the cause of a one-vehicle accident Thursday, June 29, at 1:45 p.m., at Henry Street and South Huntington Street. Glenace L. Kerfin, 66, Venice, Fla., was traveling north on Huntington Street in her 1985 Cadillac Seville. She noticed another vehicle approaching fast from behind her and quickly made a right turn to avoid being hit. When she made the turn, her vehicle struck a stop sign. Damage was listed at under S2OO to the sign and vehicle.

Mrs. Slaymaker also reported on her participation in the County Extension Homemakers’ Fashion Show held recently at Warsaw. During the health and safety lesson, Amy Stump shared tips on visiting foreign countries. Mary L. Camden gave the citizenship lesson. Mrs. Shepherd discussed “Living Wills.” Mrs. Frush and Mrs. Kolby are working on the club’s county fair display, and hope to have it finished by July 10. A picnic is planned for the July meeting. It will be held at a restored log cabin.
