Boat-In worship service to be held at Lake Wawasee
Boat-In worship services will be available during the Flotilla weekend on Lake Wawasee in front of Oakwood Park. The services begin at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 2.

QUIET WORSHIP — Visitors and residents of the Lakeland area gather each Sunday at Oakwood Park for the 8:30 a.m. Boat-In worship service. It is a quiet time to enjoy the beauty the Lord has given this area. All are w elcome to attend. Sponsored by the Syracuse-W awasee Ministerial Association, there is free coffee served both on shore and on the lake. There are parkers on duty to assist with parking. Boaters are encouraged to move in close and stay towards the south side of Oakwood Park. Those on shore should sit in front of the hotel. The sermon title for Sunday, July 2, will be "Thy Will Be Done."

Boat-in services began on Sunday, June 11, and is an annual project of the area ministerial association. They will continue through Labor Day, taking weekly themes from lines of The
Lord’s Prayer. The July 2 gathering will feature the theme “Hallowed be thy name." A different minister delivers a sermon each week, as people listen from their boats and from
along the shoreline. A sound system is used that allows speakers to be heard through wireless microphones. “It's a very worshipful environment, plus people can come in whatever they’re wearing, whether it’s a bathing suit or a suit," said Rev. Ron Blake, past president of the ministerial association. Rev. Blake has been involved with the services for six summers and he thinks they fulfill a real need in the community. entertainment for all ages. Dedicated to the preservation of the four string banjo, the Northeast Indiana Banjo Society is open to anyone who plays a four string banjo. The society divides into smaller groups enabling them to more easily travel around and present their program. They recently changed their name from Adventure String Band to the Northeast Indiana Banjo Society. The group that is coming to Lakeside Park consists of five banjos, a synthesizer and a bass. A non-profit group, the Northeast Indiana Banjo Society donates all of the money and donations that it acquires to other charities. The show will be put on by the Syracuse-Wawasee Park Foundation and there is no admission fee for this event.
