Sara Slabaugh, president of the park foundation, says the Elkhart band has been a great help in the organization and support of the lakes area band and has agreed to this arrangement. The Elkhart Municipal Band is totally tax supported.
Immediately following an icecream social, the concert is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. The concert will feature many popular songs including easy listening tunes, light overtures and marches. Flotilla Parade to begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 2
The 1989 Wawasee Flotilla Parade will be held on Sunday. July 2, at 1 p.m. Those who wish to take part should take their decorated boats to the old fish hatchery at 12:30 p.m. Flotilla fans who want to go for the gold will be able to do just that during this year’s event. In fact, entrants in the commercial, non-profit organizations, residential, youth and antique and classic boats divisions, can win first place gold and second place silver medals, while all entrants will receive bronze medals. The divisions are identified as BBQ on July 8 The Syracuse Jaycees will be hosting a chicken barbecue on Saturday, July 8, at Crosson Mill Park. The barbecue will get underway at 10:30 a.m. and will continue until “we run out of chicken,” says Jeanette Gaskins, president of the Syracuse chapter. There will be picnic tables available for those who would like to eat in the park. Carry-outs will also be available. The chicken will come from Nelson's Port-A-Pit.

Other events are tentatively scheduled for July 27 and August 31. All the events will take place on Thursday evenings. The July concerts will begin at 8 p.m while August performances will begin at 7 p.m.

The best overall entry will receive the large Commodore’s Trophy and the Earl Money trophy will be awarded by Mrs. Earl Money, who will choose the winner herself. This trophy may be awarded to any entrant, regardless of other awards that might have been won. No entry fee or form is needed and boats are to be registered before the start of the parade. Awards will be given at the finish of the parade at the old fish hatchery.
Earl Money Award — Mrs Fredetta Money. Tuttle and Yoder will be responsible for judging all categories, with the exception of the antique boat division. The Earl Money Trophy is a separate award given by Mrs. Money in memory of her husband.
