A luncheon was enjoyed and the afternoon was spent reminiscing —o— MEMBERS OF the Milford Fire Department were hard at work on Saturday morning as they installed siding and put finishing touches on the east side of the building. —o— PRIOR TO the IndianaKentucky boys and girls high school basketball all-stars clash last Saturday night. Indiana Senator Dan Coats and Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell placed, their states' pride where their basketball teams are as they entered a gentlemen's bet on the outcome of both All-Star games. Both came out on top since they agreed to swap prizes if the games came out a one-one split. The Indiana boys won but the girls lost a close one-point game. McConnell wagered a dinner of
Kentucky Fried Chicken and Derby Pie; Coats countered with Indiana-grown watermelons and gourmet popcorn. “Kentucky Fried Chicken is one of my favorite meals,” said Coats prior to the game. “I’ll look forward to having my friend. Senator McConnell, buy my dinner."
Syracuse Police busy answering accident, theft, vandalism calls
Syracuse Police investigated five accidents and a number of theft and vandalism reports during the past week. Joddy L. Fredtz, 20, Tippecanoe, reported her 1982 Chevrolet Camero was hit while it was parked in the parking lot at Augsburger's Super-Valu, on Monday, June 26. The driver of the other vehicle had left the scene. The hit/run accident was reported at 2:10 p.m. Damage to the vehicle was estimated up to $2,500. Driver inattention and improper passing was listed as the causes of a two-vehicle accident Monday. June 26. at 12:28 p.m., at SR 13 and the Elkhart County Line Road. Yong H. Harbes, 39, Milford, was traveling north on SR 13 in a 1985 Oldsmobile when she struck a 1984 Plymouth being driven by Craig Allen Culp, 25, Cromwell. Police report Culp was traveling north and had on the car's right turn signal. Harbes attempted to pass the car on the left. Culp then turned on the left turn signal and started to make a left turn, collided with Harbes auto. Damage to Culp's car was estimated up to $2,500 and up to SI.OOO to Harbes' vehicle. Damage was estimated up to $350 to a fire hydrant after being struck by a semi on Saturday, June 24. Police received a call at

10:45 am., from a resident at Brooklyn and Oak Streets reporting at 9:20 a.m., a semi had hit the fire hydrant when turning the corner. A description of the vehicle and driver was given to police. Two-vehicles collided in the parking lot at Wawasee High School Wednesday, June 21, at 12:46 p.m. Police report Matthew J. Hoffert, 17, Pierceton, was backing his 1986 Dodge out of a parking space when he backed into a 1977 Oldsmobile registered to Rudolph or Randall Cesco. Leesburg. The Cesco vehicle w.as parked. Damage to both vehicles was estimated up to SI,OOO each. A truck/building accident was reported to police at 7:02 p.m., Tuesday, June 20. According to the accident report, David D. Mehl, no age given, Ligonier, had parked his 1979 Ford F-150 truck in a parking lot before going into a bar. When Mehl came out of the bar. he could not locate the truck. It was soon located parked against the old Post Office Building at the corner of Pearl and SR 13. The right side of the truck was damaged. According to information received, Linda Broeker, owner of the dog, was in her garage and went inside her home for a minute, the dog went outside. Zuniga told police he got off his bicycle to pet the dog when the dog bit him. He was taken to a doctor by his parents. Thefts Reported Shawn Michael Wendling, 19, Indianapolis, was arrested and charged with conversion after failing to pay $14.59 for gasoline at Pace Station, 1025 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Lester R. Stanley notified police at 11:15 p.m., Saturday, June 24, that a subject had driven his car to the convenience store, filled the car up with 11.872 gallons of gasoline and drove off without paying. Stanley was able to give police a vehicle description and license plate number. Wendling, who was held on $250 bond, was located at a Lake Wawasee home, and told police, his 1988 Hyundai was low on gasoline, but he had no money. He intended on borrowing the money from a friend and returning to the location to pay for the gasoline. Ann Schrock, Syracuse,

reported the theft of a golden globe yard decoration from her backyard on Saturday, June 24. The decoration was taken between 8 p.m., Friday and 5 a.m., Saturday. No value of the item was provided. An employee of Red-D-Mart, 1024 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, reported a drive-off at 12:15 p.m., Monday, June 26. Tami Bartley, notified police that a person had driven off in a truck without paying for $5 worth of gasoline. A description of the truck and plate number was given to police. Assault/Vandalisms Police are investigating an assault and battery that occurred between 8:30-9 p.m., on Sunday, June 25. Police were notified of the incident at 11:30 p.m. Kenny L. Ferguson, Cromwell, suffered a cut to the inside of his mouth and lip area, as well as minor injuries to his eyes. Ferguson told police he and another person were walking on the right side of North Shore Drive, at Smokers Hill, heading east, when a subject in a vehicle drove past them and stopped in front of them. Lakeland Loving Care residents will be treated with an “early” Fourth of July fireworks display. Through the courtesy of Milford resident Priscilla Myers, watermelorf will also be enjoyed. Special activities for the residents during July include going to the Elkhart County Fair on Senior Citizens Day, July 25, and a trip to Potawatomi Zoo in South Bend on Monday, July 31.
Liz Scott, manager, for Kentucky Fried Chicken, 900 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, reported to police Saturday, June 24, at 5:05 p.m., the drive-through speaker was damaged when it was struck by a boat on a trailer, causing the casing to break and pulling loose the wires. The driver of the vehicle, Tom Troester, Granger, gave the manager the name of his insurance company for the repairs. No damage estimate was given. Ronald C. Sharp, 406 N. Huntington St., Syracuse, notified police at 3:11 p.m., Saturday, that someone had shot a BB pellet through a window of his home. Sharp noted he found the broken window in the kitchen area. Also police found a small dent in a kitchen cabinet caused by the pellet. No damage estimated was given. Damage was estimated up to SSO to a front window at R.C.’s Pier, Syracuse, after a customer of the business, broke out the window. Rick Eyer, owner, notified police at 12:28 am., Saturday, that he had evicted a person after causing some trouble in the restaurant/bar, and that person had used an unknown object to break the window.
