North Webster churches bnd the Mermaid Festival
By JEREMY BEER ; The Mermaid Festival began test Friday, June 16. and will continue until this Saturday. June 24. During that time the usual parades, contests, games, and fun times will take place, and you can always expect the Midway to be filled with people seeking thrills, and the merchants building to be filled with businessmen seeking business Just as predictable, though, is that the United Methodist Church in North Webster will once again host the Strawberry Festival The Strawberry Festival, which has been held as long as the Mermaid Festival has been in existence, will be held today at 4 p.m. Sundaes, short cake. pies, and ice cream will be served at the church until they are sold out. According to Rev Rex Lindemood. the pastor of the United Methodist Church, the festival is sponsored by the Come Join Us Sunday School Class. The class uses the money raised for special projects or needs within the church or community. Last year, the class donated the proceeds to the North Webster Daycare Center which is located at the church Eight hundred to 1.000 people
An imaginary trip!
By MARIETTA F I LLER Summer is a time to relax and to get away from the routine of living by going on a trip and seeing various sights or places of interest ; but not everybody is able to do this but all can take an imaginary trip to the Holy Land' 1 Let us first stop at the foot of the holy Mount of Sinai where the Lord God gave the laws to Moses We might reflect on our own lives. Have we been keeping the commandments of law and also the many commandments in the New Testament or are we to be compared with those who remained at the foot of the mountain worshipping idols 9 The idols for us today could be such things as covetousness, wealth, prestige, glory, rivalry, or anything that takes the place of God in our lives As we view the Red Sea. we are reminded of how the waters parted so that the Israelites

are expected to patronize the Strawberry Festival this year, according to Jeanette Keim, who is in charge of the festival. She says that 96 quarts of strawberries have been purchased to fill 96 pies, four 30-pound tins full of strawberries have been bought to go on shortcake and ice cream, and 25 to 30 gallons of ice cream have been bought. Mrs. Keim expects to raise another SBOO to SI,OOO.

This word is incredible! Yes. that's it. And what a history it has! It is the word "apistos" from the Greek which means unbelief It .is translated, faithless, unbelievers, believeth not. infidel, and in Acts 26:8. incredible There was a time when important people were deathly fearful of being poisoned Kings had trusty servants who would taste their wine and food before they ate of it to be sure it wasn't poisoned. Nehemiah was such a one In Italian, this pretasting ceremony was called credenza. There is a table or sideboard call-

Even more will probably show up for the lunch served at the Methodist Church this Saturday. Sandwiches, salads, desserts, and drinks will be served, starting at 11 am. The lunch is sponsored by the United Methodist Women, and the money raised is used to sup port missionary projects all over the world, as well as within the community. The United Methodist Church is
ed a credenza. It came from the name of the table where this tasting was done. From this word 'credenza" we get the word credence, which means worthy of belief, trust, etc. So the food and wine that came from the credenza was without poison. When we give credence to someone’s statement, we are trusting that there is no lie in it at all. When Paul used this word in Acts 26:8. he w; s r’ iding the Pharisees, in their disbelief of the resurrection. They thought that there was poison in that doctrine
was so welcomed and shown so much hospitality Are we welcoming Jesus in our homes today 9 At the Sea of Galilee, we remember how Jesus calmed that terrific storm for his fearful disciples; and He still calls out "Peace be still" to the troubled waters of our minds Fear is of the devil but peace can become ours as we thrust him out with: "It is written, let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.' so get thee hence " However, if fear persists, we must ask forgiveness of that sin Although there are many other things to see, our last stop of this imaginary trip will be at the Jordan River. Here we remember how the waters parted so that the Israelites could enter into that long Promised Land, and may our Lord Jesus ' Y'shua > lead us across our Jordan rivers into that promised land — the Kingdom of

not the only church in North Webster planning special activities for the Mermaid Festival. The North Webster Church of the Brethren will be hosting a sausage supper and an ice cream social on Friday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Also, the church's high school class will be serving cold drinks on Saturday during the 44th Annual Mermaid Festival Parade.
But in reality, unbelief is a spiritual poison. When the Lord told Thomas to be not faithless (John 20:27) He used that word. So He was actually saying when Thomas said. "Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails — I will not believe.” he was poisoning his own mind as well as others! Unbelief is poison! But we have a great group of "cupbearers!" They are found in Hebrews chapter 11! This article is reprinted from Beams of Grace, a weekly publication of the Grace Bible Church. 71570 CR 35. Syracuse. Pastor David R. Haifley. editor. made preparations for their work After things were set up. the young people went calling with Andy Shearer, administration ot the mission and former Milford resident. The response was good and a great first night was planned Because of the calling response, two vans were used to pick up the children for VBS Six children got on the vans, but another 12 were brought by their parents, making a total of 18 for the first night The American Indian Christian Mission had not yet worked with the Apache Indians, so the group from Milford was there to help plant the first' seed for the mission The average Indian who goes through 12 years of schooling only receives a third grade education according to public school standards. At the American Indian Christian Reservation, the children'live at the mission for nine months a year, receiving a good education and getting exposure to Christ. The young people did not know-

what to expect since there had never been any outreach to the Apaches, only the Navajos. The youth did all the teaching, craft work, recreation, and song leading for the VBS on Monday. Tuesday, and Wednesday. The attendance grew each day until there were 44-50 Indian children in attendance on Wednesday. That day. the VBS was closed with a feast that was cooked by the Indian hostess. Mrs. Tsay, and her family. The meal included acorn stew, acorn pot pie. acorn squash, beans and bacon, beef, fry bread, tortillas and ash bread, with cake and watermelon for dessert. The food definitely had a different taste than everyone is used to. Brian Wilcox and kirk Dewart even had the opportunity to make ash bread, which is really made on ashes! It was delicious! On Thursday, the group spent the day working for the mission They did many various jobs from painting, pulling weeds, washing

The guys cleared brush, hauled trash, staked out footing for a new multipurpose building, and got ready for the mission's biggest fundraising day, Pow Wow Day, by putting up the tent and collecting tables and chairs. Everyone was tired after the long day. On Friday, a check for $2,001.52 was presented to the mission by the young people. This was part of the money they have raised over the past year. The group then left for a sightseeing trip before returning home. They were able to see many things during the week and on Friday. It was an experience that will not be soon forgotten by the youth or sponsors. Anyone who would enjoy hearing more about the trip is invited to attend the Christian Church this Sunday evening. June 25. at 6:30 to hear the young people present their view of the trip.
