Rural Neighbors learn about high blood pressure
Mary Beth Camden presided during the May 31 meeting of Rural Neighbors Club held in the home of Mary L. Camden. Julia Frush gave the meditation. Cathy Kolby led group singing. Judy Shepherd served as secretary pro tem. The treasurer’s report was given by Doris Ann Slaymaker. Amy Stump reported on the recent county trip. Mrs. Slay maker will be modeling a garment she made during the homemakers’ annual fashion show this summer. The group voted to make donations to the 4-H Foundation

It was decided to furnish refreshments for the Mental Health Association at Fort Wayne this fall. Mrs. Frush and Mrs. Kolby will be in charge of designing the County Fair booth. Mrs. Georgia Webster Tuesday evening at United Methodist Church for the mother-daughter banquet. Mrs. Webster is an art teacher in the Elkhart-Goshen area and a former teacher of Syracuse School. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hite and children have moved from Epworth Forest to Wawasee Lake where they will manage the Elwood Motel for the summer. Mr. Hite is junior high coach at North Webster. North Webster Pythian Sisters met May 26 at the K P Hall with excellent senior, Mr. Ermal Vanator presiding. Past grand chief Mrs. Clifford Payne of Marion was a guest.
"The Magnificent Egg.” Mrs. Kolby and Mrs. Slaymaker gave a lesson and demonstration of “Low Calorie Cooking.” It was announced that Mrs. Frush will be attending the Homemakers’ Conference at Purdue on June 7. Vickie Camden served refreshments of cheese, deer sausage, crackers, mixed fresh fruit and Texas cake. Mary B. Camden will be hostess for the June meeting. New officers will be installed.
Mr. and Mrs. David Blackwell entertained with a picnic Sunday for Mr. and Mrs. James Turner and Bruce. Present also were Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Himebaugh and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Himebaugh of Richmond. Mr. Turner will fly to Arizona this week. House guests of the Dan Watsons this week are Mr. and Mrs. A. Richard Florence of Dearborn, Mich. Mrs. Florence is a sister of Mrs. Watson. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Kuhn and children, North Webster, and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Grindle of Syracuse, were Memorial Day guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Likens.

FRESHMAN ICEBREAKER — Area parents joined forces to organize an official freshman welcome at Wawasee High School on Thursday evening, June 1, according to Charles Koser, cochairman for the event. After a brief greeting by Principal Ned Speicher, the newest members of Wawasee High School were invited to participate in a variety of games. Teams were set up well beforehand with a special attempt to put students together from the various schools. The evening came to a close with a dance, which for the first time, featured a live band. Grant for task force used in Turkey Creek Twp. over holiday
The first use of the $2,500 in grant monies from the Governor’s Task Force to Reduce Drunk Driving was used by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department in Turkey Creek Township. Increased enforcement patrols were set up in the township during Memorial Day weekend. Throughout the four-day holiday a total of 54 arrests and/or citations were issued by officers according to Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Officer Jeff Bronsing, who is coordinating the program. He noted the officers who participated volunteered for the

detail during their off-duty time and funds from the grant will be used to compensate the officers. Os the 54 arrests and/or citations, three jiersons were charged with drunk driving; one reckless driving arrest; and two arrests dealt with either a minor possessing, consuming or transporting alcohol or possession or consumption of alcohol. There were 10 warnings issued to drivers. Bronsing noted he is pleased with the results of the program ano is working on targeting other areas of the county throughout the summer months.
