LOUISA'S LETTER Dear Louisa, I am sixteen years old but I look much older than that. I go to the movies a good bit in the afternoon as my mother works and is not there until rather late. Some of the movies are very vulgar and I would rather not see them but the girls I go with think that it is fun. My mother never asks me what I see at the movies. I wish she would tell me not to go to R movies and I would have an excuse to tell my friends but I don’t think my mother knows what we see as she never goes to the movies. If I tell the girls I don’t want to go they will think I’m a square. What must I do? Puzzled — N.Y. Answer: Tell your mother what kind of movies you are seeing and I doubt if you will have any trouble about getting her reaction. It is not smart to visit dirty movies or to read filthy books. I remember hearing a very good speaker discuss that subject many years ago and he said that filling your mind with garbage left stains that stayed with you and didn't go away. Os course, I understand how hard it is for young people at the present time to avoid entertainment garbage, but let us hope that the public will soon get tired of letting the smut dealers have a free rein in trying to deprave our youngsters and that the authorities and judges will have enough courage and morality to UAW retirees meet at Syracuse Lake The UAW/ Local 1405 met Wednesday, May 24, at Syracuse Lake. Trips that are available were discussed. Serving as host was Jack McDaniel, who gave a talk. The next meeting will be Wednesday, June 28, at the Lakeside Park in Syracuse. All retirees and spouses are invited, and are asked to take a food dish and enjoy the fellowship.
