Barb Richardson lives by honesty and hard work
No matter what kind of background or hardships a person grows up with, if a person is honest, “you can really make it in life," says Barb Richardson of Milford. Living proof of this assertion. Barb has faced several obstacles in her life, but has learned to overcome them by taking control. Profile One of five girls. Barb says after her "parents split. . .we were raised on welfare.'' Guided by her theory that “you have to work at it" to succeed in life. Barb entered the work force at 13 years of age. For three years. Barb worked at JW’s Drive-In on SR 15. (It is now Stan’s Restaurant.) After leaving the business for awhile, she “came back and bought it” and ran it for seven years. She comments she enjoyed this work a lot, but her arthritis dictated that she find a job that did not require as many hours on her feet. Turning to the real estate business. Barb says she

“sold for a year and went back (to school) and got a broker’s license.” In March of this year, she opened up what is now the only realty business in Milford, Richardson’s Realty. She enjoys this business a great deal and although she admits catering to clients’ needs, she still finds a freedom in owning her own business. Her husband Wayne will be joining the business part time in the fall after he attends a realty school. He currently works at Holiday Rambler Corporation. In addition to her work at her business, Barb keeps busy by working with the emergency medical service in Milford. Her realty business is conveniently located right across the street from the Milford EMS, making it easier for her to respond to as many calls as she can. She has volunteered for this service for nine years and her only complaint is that they are “shorthanded right now.” A member of the Maple City Saps, a cafnping club, Barb says she and her husband get out of doors a lot. Camping “all over the place,” Barb notes, she and her husband seem to like the state parks best. Her three children, Kathy, John and Terry, have fond memories of camping with their parents and Barb shares that same fondness. Her positive outlook and enthusiasm leave a lasting impression as she concludes, “you are your own person, vou have to work at it to make it in life.”
