125 pieces of art displayed at art show
Over 125 pieces of art were on display at the 32nd Annual Lakeland Art Association Spring Art Show and Sale this past' weekend in Warsaw. Entries were received in such divisions as painting (oil and acrylic), sculpture and carving, photography, mixed media, and watercolor. Judging this years entries were Russell L. Oettel and Betty Fishman. Oettel is a professor of fine arts at Indiana/Purdue University, Fort Wayne. He has had 35 years in teaching and is a painter. Oettel has had exhibits in Metropolitan, New York; Corcoran, Washington, D.C.; Saint Louis Art Museum; Herron; Chicago Art Institute; South Bend; Fort Wayne; and many others. Mrs. Fishman has been an art educator for the East Noble School Corporation for 22 years and is exhibit chairwoman for the Artlink Art Space Gallery, Fort Wayne. She works in drawing and mixed media printmaking and has exhibited works in Binghamton, New York; Artlink, Fort Wayne; Indianapolis Museum Sales Gallery; Fort Wayne Museum of Art. Premium books are automatically sent to those who’ exhibited at either the 87 or 88 state fairs, and they will also be available in county extension offices in mid-June. Ladies of Round Table elect officers
The Syracuse Ladies of the Round Table met on May 8 at Calvary United Methodist Church for their annual Spring Party. Tables were decorated in pink and white, accented with pink roses. A small rose bowl with a pink rose was used for individual favors. The ladies were welcomed by Gwen Immel, party chairperson Following the doxology. a swiss steak dinner was served. Paula Markley conducted the induction service for 1989-1990 club officers. Those inducted were: Gwen Immel — president: Lera Rinker — vice president; Anna Chance — secretary; and Janet Davis — treasurer. The program for the evening was presented by Norma Rush, who protrayed young 11 -year-old Evening Bridge-O-Rama makes donations Final wrap-up for the Lakeland Evening Bridge-O-Rama was held May 7 at the Beacon The club voted to give cash gifts to Lakeland Day Care Center and Samaritans On Standby. Winners w'ere announced for the year. Ron Richey and Chuck Haffner were winners in both high gross and high net. Second in high gross were Don and Crystal Miller. Third were Bill and Nancy Patty, and fourth were Jo and Earle Waltz. Receiving awards for high gross were: Elaine and Art Schenck, first; Dick and Mary Prescott, second; Sara Slabaugh and Carolyn Rearick, third: and Jacquie Kuilema and Charlie Taylor, fourth Winners for the evening's bridge were Chuck Haffner and Sallie Maish. Stephanie Katsanis, Leesburg, and Todd Wottring, Indianapolis, exchanged wedding vows at 3:30 p.m., March 18, 1989, at the Free Methodist Church, Winona Lake. Pastor John B. Lowe of the New Life Christian Church officiated the double ring ceremony before 300 guests. The bride is the daughter of Thomas and Patricia Katsanis of North Carolina.
