Georgia Bray enjoys her bus route
“To drive a bus or a semi" is something that Georgia Bray says she has always wanted to do. As of January of this year her dreams have become reality, as she now is a full-time bus driver for the Wawasee Community School Corporation. Although she says she has been driving the bus for a little over a year, before January driving was only a part-time job. “Being a subdriver is hard." says Georgia, "because you have to know every route and it is hard remembering all the routes.”

A “morning person" anyway. Georgia says she does not mind starting her run at about 7:40 a m. When she began her Dewart Lake route in January, she says she “started to say good morning" to each child as he or she boarded the bus. At first, she comments that only a few children would respond. Now. she says smilingly, almost all of them have a friendly reply. Kindergarten through high school, the students who ride Georgia s bus vary in age T get attached to them and it's fun to watch them grow." Georgia remarks.

Video Review By JOAN KLINE In the past several years there has been an explosion of video stores, making hundreds of movies available to every family. Manytimes the consumer has no idea what sort of movie he or she is taking home. It can be a traumatic shock to youngsters who discover, too late, a scene of graphic violence in the middle of their kiddy show . An unexpected vivid sexual scene can be very embarrassing in the middle of a gathering of friends. As the mother of three teenagers, Mrs. Kline is presenting a moderate view on a number of films which are available in area stores. Platoon Leader A new lieutenant is suspect by all the veteran soldiers at the fire base. His decisions can cost you your life. This platoon leader is smart " enough to admit he has much to learn. In the Sergeant's words. “Nam is a war which doesn't follow the rules." This movie vividly shows the struggle of the American soldier to make sense out Os the brutal job they have been asked to do. Who is my friend 0 Who is the enemy 0 Death comes at any moment and usually is cruel and senseless. Not good viewing for young and sensitive. Very realistic. Punchline 0 This is a wonderful comedy starring Sally Fields as the struggling new comic Lila. Lila has always been the life of the party around her family and friends. Now she wants to see if she can make it as a stand up comic. Lila gets little support from her husband and family who are content with life as it has been Tom Hanks also portrays an upcoming comic, but he is already firmly established in the nightclub circuit Hanks puts aside his own problems to show the newcomer how to use the talent she already possesses Any woman trying to balance the responsibilities of a growing family and a career will see herself in some of these hilarious scenes Along with the uproarious comic scenes we see the truly bittersweet life of a man hiding behind the smiling comic's face.
Poppy Days this weekend
The American Legion Auxiliary Volunteers from the Milford Ancil Geiger Unit 226 and the Syracuse Wawasee Unit 223 will be distributing the familiar red handcrafted poppies honoring America's war dead this Friday and Saturday. May 19 and 20. this event, known as Poppy Days, is an annual occurrence which pays tribute to those veterans who gave their lives in the last 70 years and it also honors the millions of Americans who have willingly served their country Each nine-piece poppy is made by veterans for veterans in auxiliary sponsored poppy shops that supplement physical and psychological therapy needed by hospitalized and disabled
veterans. The auxiliary provides the material and the volunteers. The veteran makes the poppy and is paid a small amount for each painstaking made flower For some, it is their only income No matter what the cost maintaining and supplying the poppy shops, the memorial poppy is never sold, but given in exchange for a contribution It serves, as well as honors, the veterans with all proceeds from the distribution invested in local programs for the benefit of the veterans and his/her family. Everyone is encouraged to wear a poppy this Friday and Saturday Problems People who are trying to live within their means may be lousing up the poverty program — Record. Columbia. S.C..

The fact that Georgia is a woman never really came to be a big issue. She says the bus “is not hard to drive.” The other male drivers did give her a “hard time" when she first started her route, but now Georgia jokingly says that it was all in fun and she “dishes it right back to them. They have been great," she notes, “and we all have breakfast together every morning and I love it.” "I am one of the stricter drivers,” Georgia maintains. She explains she has rules and the kids know “when she is serious” about them. Like most rules, Georgia upholds her list of them to make her route safe. Basically. Georgia says, "they're a pretty good group of kids.” Originally from Leesburg. Georgia moved to Milford when she married her husband Jerry six years ago. With six children, Georgia says she is very lucky to have them "living all around us.” A member of the Just Sac No Club. Georgia participates in their activities whenever she can. In what remains of her spare time, she enjoys playing the piano and doing all kinds of sewing and needlework. Georgia also keeps the books for her and husband Jerry’s business. Jerry's Carpet and Furniture. Georgia loves her job driving the school bus mostly because she loves being around kids. At one point in time, she used to baby-sit 16 children at once. And she loved it. “My home has been where the kids have come to play." she notes happily. Now Georgia is content doing anything she can for the kids on her route. "I trv to make it more enjoyable for them." she says. With summer approaching Georgia does not look forward to the time when she and the kids are off for three months. She missed them at spring break and knows that she will miss them during the summer. Hopefully, “I'll see some of them this summer.”
