Syracuse, was not injured w hen the 1979 Olds mobile she was driving flipped on its top. The accident occurred Thursday. May 11. at 9:10 p.fli.. at UR 1300 X and UR 15()E. Police report she was driving the vehicle east on UR 1300 N when a chuck hole, causing her to loose control of the car. The car is registered to Dallas McKibben. 117 E. Shore Dr.. Syracuse. The accident caused a number of power outages in the Milford-Syracuse area. Damage to the car was estimated up to s.’>.ooo and under S2OO to the Northern Indiana Public Service Company pole. Pogue told the Kosciusko,County Police she had parked her vehicle at her home on Pine Drive in Stroh Addition. Syracuse, the evening of May 9 and the next morning found the window broken Damage to the window was estimated at S2OO. Bill Helms, r 2 box 260, Milford, notified police on Monday. May 15. that while his 1988 Eord Ranger was parked along Orn Road, someone had broken the driver's side window. Helms was in the woods with a coon dog at the time of the incident The van dalism occurred between 10-11 :30 p.m. Damage was estimated up to S2OO. Neighbor reports pit bull is loose
From the Sheriff's Log is a weekly feature which presents a sampling of the incidents the officers in Kosciusko County are called upon to deal. THURSDAY, MAY 4 An employee of a gasoline station notified authorities of a car over an embankment at the Claypool overpass. The incident was on the east side of the road. FRIDAY. MAY 5 Police were asked to check on a person who has been absent from work for one week. The employer stated the person usually calls, but there is no answer at the employees home. The North Webster Post Office was called to find out the location of the address and an officer went to check on the person. The officer reported he located the home but no one was there. He spoke to the people who own the home, who reported the person being looked for may have moved out of state. The dispatcher received a call from a person who reported an underage drinking party in a housing addition Warsaw . Police Department notified the sheriff’s department that the owner of a disabled vehicle will move it toward as soon as possible. The vehicle was on US 30. SATURDAY. MAY 6 A man notified the dispatcher that his vehicle hit a pole on CR 900E. near the Elkhart County Line somewhere. He left the scene. The man. who lives out of state, told police where he was staying and what business he works for. He stated he would come to the sheriff's department in the morning to get an accident report form. Northern Indiana Public Service Company was notified to check on the damage to the pole. The company reported it would be up to S2.(XX). Police were called by a man who reported people trespassing on his farm. The man wanted those people removed, however, he could not give police a license plate number or vehicle description. The dispatcher reported that all of the officers were investigating personal injury accidents and could not be sent im mediately. The man told the dispatcher to send an ambulance then because he was enroute to the property with his gun to take care of the problem himself. The sheriff and a conservation officer went to the scene, SUNDAY. MAY 7 The dispatcher received a call from a Silver Lake man who reported his neighbor's "pit bull" is loose and the neighbor is not home The caller wanted someone to come down and shoot it The town marshal was not available and the county humane society does not have a contract w ith the city to pick up the dog The dispatcher sent a county officer to the location After the of-

ficer arrived he reported who the owner was and that the dog was now in the shed He told the neighbor to contact the prosecutor's office in the morning. He advised the dispatcher that if there were any more calls to contact the humane officer and log the call for information. No party was found by officers after a man called and reported a party going on with minors. The party involved drugs and drinking. The man calling reported he has called about the party at that location before and did not get any response. He told the dispatcher if an officer was not sent, the parents would take care of it and someone would get hurt. An officer was sent to that location, but before he could arrive, the man called again and demanded the officer get there now or the county would have to bring ‘‘body bags.” The caller was assured that several officers were heading that direction. When the officer arrived he reported nothing was found in the home except an old mattress, beer cans and empty liquor bottles. There were no people MONDAY, MAY 8 Concerned about the welfare of children living in an area, a man alerted police to a problem of a person driving a vehicle over the speed limit in an area on SR 19. A coon dog was shot while its owner was out running it. The owner requested to speak to an officer TUESDAY. MAY 9 An employee of the county highway department notified the dispatcher there was a vehicle blocking an entrance to the gravel pit on CR 200N east of CR 175E. An officer was sent and requested it be towed to a wrecker service. Attempt to notify the owner will be made. Wrong date for Flotilla The Wawasee Flotilla parade is to be held on Sunday. July 2, at 1 p.m. The date was incorrectly reported to be Sunday, June 2. in the May 10 issue of The Mail Journal The parade will begin promptly following a balloon launch at the Fish Hatchery Participants should take their decorated boats to the hatchery by 12:30 p.m Lane restriction information US.3O in Kosciusko County has been restricted to 14 feet eastbound during the reconstruction of several bridges between SR 19 and SR 15. west of Warsaw. According to township trustee. Richard D. Mitchell, $20,000 has already been used to purchase materials and relocate lighting and water pipes. To keep the project slowly moving, volunteers are building interior walls, doing dry walling, plastering and sanding. Shown is what will be the main meeting area, one large room (74’x48’), or, by the use of a divider, two smaller roams Cl7‘x24’), and the progress the workers have made to repair the ceiling. The Elkhart County Parks and Recreation Department have planned a variety of nature programs for the months of May and June On Friday, May 26. the Elkhart County Park Rangers will have an evening of learning hosted by their own Marlene Perkins. Perkins will try to explain the habits and lifestyles of the park rangers. Addressing the problem of solid waste disposal will be the subject of the program presented by Don Miller, chairman of the Solid Waste Disposal/Recycling Committee for the Kosciusko County Lakes Council. The council will meet Thursday, May 18, 7 p m. at the Chapman Lake Conservation Club. From industry, Norman Fisher, by-products manager of R.R. Donnelley & Sons, will discuss waste paper/paper board , recycling-sortation grades and relative values, marketing and transportation Additionally, there will be a presentation of many products currently made from scrap paper which kept 60 rpillion pounds of such scrap out of area landfills in 1988 From the private sector.
