Edwards sets Wawasee high jump record

May 5. leading the Wawasee Warriors to a first-place finish in team high jumping competition at the Kelly Relays in Concord. Edwards' winning leap was six feet, eight inches Mike Page and Cuong Reed teamed with Edwards to make up the winning three-man combination. Concord took first overall in the Class A division with a score of 94 points, while Plymouth finished just four points back in second The Warriors' 54-point total put them in fifth place in the seventeam field. Garrett Ponciroli. Rob Rhodes and Craig Streby teamed up to give Wawasee a second place finish in the shot put competition The pole vault was another strong point for the Warriors, as Scott Rozow. .Jeff Carey and Andy Keener helped earn their team another second-place finish Carey combined With Jason Douglas. Cuong Reed and Steve Eastman to give the Warriors a solid third-place performance in the 3,200-meter relay Earlies in the week Wawasee's boys' were handed a setback when they finished behind North Wood and Warsaw in a tri-meet at .Wawasee High School Wednesday. May 10. It was a close meet which came down to the wire before North Wood pulled out the victory with-57'j points. Garrett Ponciroli notched second-place finishes in the discus and the shot put. The Warriors will take their 4-3 conference record into the Northern Lakes Conference meet at Goshen on Thursday. May 11 Plymouth is still undefeated in league play while North Wood has one loss. Wawasee will have to combat the injury bug as well as some tough NLC competition. Mike Bailey. Scott Carlin and John Karesh are some of the more notable Warriors who have been hobbled. "The ones that are healthy are in pretty good shape." Minton said of his team. "The ones coming off injuries-are starting their season over." Minton said it's possible that his team could catch North Wood in the standings if the Panthers have a bad NLC meet But he's keeping a practical set of goals. Big Boulder holds four-man event The first annual four num event or "Blizzard Open was held at the Big Boulder Golf Course in Milford on Saturday with first place being captured by the four man team of Tim Hochstetler. Scott Hayes Andy Anglemeyer and Peockey Hayes. The 18-hole event, which was reduced to 13 holes by the sudden snowstorm, selected the day's winners by virtue ol their nine hole scores. Versus Penn Ami LaVille The Wawasee boys' golf team went to 5-5 on the 89 campaign with a win and a ’loss during a triangular match versus Penn and LaVille held at the Tippecanoe Country Club on Monday The Warriors totaled 338 as a team to finish four strokes behind Penn (334) and five strokes ahead of the LaVille contingent that totaled 343. Nigbor led the hosts on Monday with a round of 75 while Cesco (84). Tuttle (88). Schmahl (91) and Leedy <91.) rounded the individual totals for the team. "Right now we re not getting a lot of consistency with our play except for Randy (Cesco) who's been pretty consistent and we re kind of up and down because we’re lacking depth in consistent good scores.'' commented Goshert after Monday's match. Losses To Huntington North And Homestead The Warriors saw their record even at 4-4 on the season as they suffered defeats to Huntington North and Homestead during a triangular match held last Thursday at the Norwood Course. The squad from Huntington North totaled 161 during the 9-hole action to win the match while Homestead recorded a 168 and Wawasee’s squad tallied a 169. Cesco led the Warriors with a round of 40 while teammates Leedy (41), Nigbor (42), Schmahl (46) and Tuttle (48) rounded out the scoring tor the team. JV 1 .oss To Central Noble Varsity The Wawasee junior varsity golf team fell to 2-3 on the season as they lost a dual match to the varsity golf squad from Central Noble during action last Thursday. The JV squad, which totaled 203 while Central Noble shot 179, was led by Baker who carded a 9-hole round of 46 for the Warriors Williams (50), Clingaman (52) and Hutchinson (55) rounded out the scoring for the team.
