The meeting will be held at the North Webster Church of the Brethren. There will be an anniversaryparty of the 50th birthday of the American Legion at the North Webster American Legion, Herbert Kuhn Post No. 253, on the evening of March 15. (Saturday). A potluck supper will precede a dance at 9:30, the latter for adults. Every legionnaire and auxiliary member is urged to attend. The annual secret pal supper was held February 18 in the North Webster American Legion hall before the regular meeting of
the auxiliary. The junior auxiliary members learned who their secret pals were for the past year. There were 27 juniors present and 21 auxiliary members Snowstorm wipes out chickens The results of a' winter snow storm that passed through Missouri and northwest Arkansas Sunday and Monday are being felt nationwide According to Doug Hoffer, vice president of the processing and marketing division of Creighton Brothers in Warsaw, the blizzard was responsible for the death of approximately two million laying hens. The storm that passed through the two states dumped record amounts of snow while freezing rain continued on Monday. Accumulation of wet snow caused approximately 100 chicken house roofs to collapse killing at least one percent of the nation’s laying hens. Hoffer says the substantial lose means higher egg prices for everyone. The prices are expected to rise 30 percent from the current markings, while last year's prices will be doubled Depending on the retailer, Hoffer says grade A large eggs (now priced at about 69 cents per dozen) will be selling for anywhere from sl.lO to $1.50 per dozen. Hoffer warns that because of the Easter holiday's egg coloring tradition, the supply and demand for eggs have already pushed prices up. By early next week, shoppers will note a minimum price increase of six cents per dozen eggs, but that price is not expected to decrease soon after Easter.
