Utility pole on fire

From the Syracuse Police Log is a weekly feature which presents a sampling of the incidents the officers from the Syracuse Fire Department and Syracuse Police Department are called upon to deal: TUESDAY. FEB. 28 A caller was advised to contact a conservation officer after calling the dispatcher to request an officer look at a wild animal. A local business owner came to the fire station to speak with the fire chief regarding a new law starting March 1 regarding chemicals and flammables stored. There was no new law. but the deadline was March 1 for the yearly reporting of chemicals and flammables under the federal right to know or Sarah Title 111 law. WEDNESDAY, MARCH I The request for u permit by a person was referred to the police chief. A person inquired if a permit was needed for a mobile food route test area. The state highway department was notified of a light out on the traffic light at the bowling alley. THURSDAY, MARCH 2 The dispatcher received a call from a person who reported he could not contact the town clerk's office by telephone. The dispatcher reported the telephone line was open. North Webster dispatcher called and reported the telephone lines there were out. Six minjites later the dispatcher called and reported the telephones were operational again Approximately one-hour later, the dispatcher called and reported the telephone lines were not working again.

FRIDAY, MARCH 3 A caller notified the dispatcher that the stoplight at SR 13 at the bowling alley was not working properly. The police chief was sent to check on the problem. He reported the light was working properly. Police were notified of an alarm at a business that was being heard outside the building. Two police officers were sent to check on the alarm and found that the building was secured. SATURDAY, MARCH 4 The dispatcher received a call during the early morning hours from a person reporting fire coming out of a utility pole near a business on SR 13. The caller later called back and reported the fire was out. The pole number and location was relayed to Northern Indiana Public Service Company. The police officer on duty reported the company would repair the problem on Monday unless there were calls regarding power outages. A caller reported a vehicle had hit a pole south of town, and left the scene. The vehicle was heading south towards North Webster and that police department was notified. SUNDAY, MARCH 5 Where do you pay an Elkhart County ticket? That was the question asked the dispatcher by a caller. The person was told it was to be paid in Elkhart County. A conservation officer reported he has some fishing gear belonging to a Wawasee fisherman. The owner of the equipment needs to see him to have it returned. MONDAY, MARCH fi The officer was unable to locate any kids after a call was received reporting there were kids messing around in a housing development. The officer, after checking out the complaint, reported there was no one around that area. Vehicles parked for over two hours in a two-hour parking zone uptown was reported to police. A complaint was received of a vehicle taking up customers' parking spaces on East Main Street. The officer checked on the vehicle and stated if it is still there in two hours, he would issue a ticket. False alarm at Miller's Burnt food in the kitchen of Miller’s Merry Manor, Syracuse, caused the fire alarm at the healthcare facility to activate and sending the Syracuse Fire Department to the scene.
