Rev. Michael Johnson Rev Michael E Johnson, 38, 218 N Huntington St., Syracuse, died Monday, Feb 6, 1989, at 5:15 a m. in his home. He had been ill for sometime with cancer He was born in Fort Wayne on August 27, 1950, to Myron L. and Gloria (Leach) Johnson. On June 15, 1968, he married Joella Diss She survives. He had served as minister at the Syracuse Church of God for the past seven years. Prior to that, he served the Walnut Grove and Tulip Church of God at Bloomfield. He was a member of the Wawasee Kiwanis Club. Surviving with his wife are four daughters, Angela Johnson of Syracuse, Amy, -Abbie, and Alyssa, all at home; his mother, Gloria Johnson. Fort Wayne; his father, Myron L. Johnson, Albion; one sister, Mrs Kenneth (Judy) Crouch, Crowell, Texas; one brother, Dan Johnson, Fort Wayne; and his grandmother, Mary Dygert, Freemont Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Thurs day after 11 a m. in Eastlund Harris Funeral Home, Syracuse Services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in Calvary United Methodist Church, Syracuse, with Rev Al Rockey, Rev. Kash R. Shafer Kash R. Shafer, 85, died Tuesday. Jan. 31, 1989, nt 1:20 p.m. in Miller’s Mer Manor, LaGrange. He was the father of Mrs LeVoid (Mary Lou) Troyer, Syracuse. He was born in Bloomfield Township on February 18, 1903. On February 17,1926, he married Helen Lucille Keller in Plato. She preceded him in death on August 4,1988. He was retired from the LaGrange County Highway Department. Also surviving are two additional daughters, Viva May Yoder, Sarasota, Fla., and Mrs. Ronald (Linda Lou) Miller. Lansing, Mich.; one son, Ronald K. Shafer, LaGrange; 12 grandchildren; 2 6 greatgrandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Roy (Anna) Reichard, Sturgis, Mich., Mrs. Frank (Leona) Sanderson, LaGrange, and Roxie Keller, Howe; and one brother. He had been in ill health for 10 months. He was the brother of Larry Hunter of Syracuse. He was born in Rochester on September 26,1934, to Nelson and Miriam Yeazel Hunter, Sr. On December 9, 1956, he married Carolyn L. Castleman. She survives. He was a farmer and a lifetime resident of Fulton County. From 1957-59, he served in the US Army in Germany. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Rochester, Kum-Join-Us class of the church, Fulton County Mental Health Association, Manitou Training Center, Association of Milk Producers, and was a former member of Rochester Rotary Club. Also surviving are one son, Jeffrey D. Hunter, at home; father and stepmother, Nelson and Rosellen Hunter, Sr,, Rochester; stepfather, Paul Gile, Warsaw; five sisters, Linda McCloughan and Kay Alber, both of Rochester, Wanda Wilhelm, Macy, Pat Van Dalsen, Deedsville, and Jane Smith, Guam. She was employed with the former Penn Controls and was owner-operator of Lehman’s Dairy Bar in New Paris from 1947 until 1964. She was a member of the New Paris Church of the Brethren and Bethany Homemakers Extension Club. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Dpris) Whitehead; Syracuse; threq^randchildren, and nine greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Dorothy, in 1945, and nine brothers and sisters. Services were held at 10:30 a m. Saturday, Feb. 4. in New Paris Church of the Brethren with Rev. She graduated from high school in South Bend where she later married Robert H Sternaman. He preceded her in death. Surviving are one daughter. Barbara Reale, Redwood City, Calif.; one son, Robert, of Texas; and an aunt. Mrs. Benjamin Norris of Albion. Interment was in the family gravesight near Albion. Leila Fetters Leila “Zoe” Fetters, 92, formerly of r 1, Kimmell, died Friday, Feb. 3, 1989, at 7:16 p.m. in Columbia City Community Care Center where she had resided since 1977. She was the mother of Roger Fetters, Syracuse. The daughter of Joseph Milton and Alemda Deeter Shew, she was born in Noble County on February 27, 1896. On May 30, 1914, she married Charles Floyd “Pete " Fetters. He preceded her in death in 1970. A lifetime Washington Township, Noble County resident, she was active in Salem Community Church and Noble County Home Extension. SYRACUSE MAN REMAINS IN CRITICAL CONDITION Tony'Vanover, 20. son of Carl and Ellen Vanover of r 2, Syracuse, remains in critical, but stable condition this morning (Wednesday) in the intensive care unit of Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. Vanover sustained two broken legs and internal injuries when a car, in which he was a passenger, slid out of control and hit a bridge support on SR 25 near Mentone early Saturday morning, Feb. 6. He was born on June 5. 1924. in Kirklin, to Harold and Marie King Gant. He married Norma Toney on March 10, 1945. She died in 1976 On July 2, 1977, he mar ried Anne Perkins, who died in 1986. On May 29, 1988. he married Yvonne Peek She survives He moved from Frankfort to North Webster in 1960. In 1978, he retired from Lyall Electric, North Webster He was an Army Air Corp veteran of World War 11, member, past commander, historian, and adjutant of North Webster American Legion, and was a member of Syracuse VFW and Warsaw DAV. Surviving with his. wife are three daughters, Mrs. Ted (Rebeccai Ward, Osceola; Mrs Charles (Ginger) Packer, North Webster; and Mrs Will (Lisa) Maldonado, Grissom Air Force Base; three sons, Richard Gant, Denver; Gregg Gant, Indianapolis; Lincoln Perkins.
