regular season portion of their schedule last Tuesday, Oct. 25, with a victory over South Bend St. Joseph, has been honing down and tapering back in its preparation during the past week for the NLC meet. “We’re finished with our hard training for the year and I think that we’re ready for the NLC meet and the upcoming sectional competition on Nov. 10 and 12,” the coach said. The NLC, which begins with the preliminaries tomorrow at 6:30 pm. as mentioned above, concludes on Saturday, Nov. 5 at Concord’s Pool, with the diving preliminaries starting at 9:00 a.m. and the swimming finals following at 1:30 p.m.

Elkhart resident Mark Huffman, a three-year member of The Mail-Journal and the PAPER staff, was recently named sports editor of The MailJournal by editor Jeri Seely. Joining Huffman in the sports department are Scott Davidson, also of Elkhart, and Goshen resident Mitchell Stinson, who will be sharing sports writing duties. Huffman is a 1985 graduate of Ball State University, Muncie, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in journalism. He also received an associates of science degree in journalism from Vincennes (Ind.) University, where he was named Kenneth

C. Carr Student-Journalist-of-the-Year in 1984 and played one year of college football for the William Penn College Statesmen in Oskaloosa, lowa. The former Elkhart Memorial High School student enjoys all sports, although he prefers an evening of watching Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls to watching Davidson’s Boston Celtics and Larry Bird. Davidson is also a graduate of Ball State University, receiving his BS in sports information in 1988. He served as sports information student assistant and was a common sight on the intramural courts at Ball State. He
enjoys reading, writing, and participating in sports during his spare time. He is also an avid fan of Notre Dame University football, as anyone who has read his column can surmise. Stinson is a 1988 graduate of Indiana University, Bloomington, where he earned bachelor of arts degrees while carrying a double major in journalism and history. Attending the University of Guam before making his trek to Bloomington, Stinson enjoys table tennis (a sport he has won several awards for), while he was captain of his intramural basketball team during his IU days. The Evansville native also enjoys reading in his spare time.
