Eddie Cotner Eddie Dean Cotner, 58, r 1, Cromwell, died at 5:05 p.m., Mon-day,-Sept. 27, 1988, in his home. He had«been suffering from cancer. He was born May 19, 1930, in Lima, Ohio, to Warren H. and Leona (Nixon) Cotner. On Jan. 30,1959, he married Marlene Moffett, who survives. He was a resident of the Syracuse area for the past three years, coming from Riverside, Calif. He was a draftsman for Commodore Homes, Syracuse, a member of North Webster American Legion and a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. Other survivors include his mother, Leona VanDemark, Lima; three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Mary Ellen) Powell, Hoffman Estates, 111., Mrs. Mark (Linda) Folson, Perris, Calif.,

HILDA RUCH DOING WELL AFTER SURGERY Hilda Ruch, Milford, is doing quite well following hip replacement surgery on Tuesday, Sept. 6, in Elkhart Hospital. After an 11-day stay in the hospital, she is now at home and is able to move about with a walker. JOHN HULLEY HIT IN EYE WITH GOLF BALL Syracuse resident John Hulley was hit in the eye by a golf ball while playing in a golf tourney at Monticello on Sunday, Sept. 18, after winning at South Shore. Hulley was taken to a hospital where stitches were taken. At this time, the eye is reportedly showing improvement. WAWASEE PRINCIPAL UNDERGOES SURGERY Wawasee High School Principal Ned L. Speicher, PO Box 617, Milford, underwent gall bladder surgery Thursday noon, Sept. 22, in Goshen Hospital. Speicher was released to his home on Sunday and is continually making improvements each day. He is expected to return to school soon. SCHOOL OFFICIAL TAKEN TO HOSPITAL Roger Kryder, business manager of Wawasee Community School Corporation, was taken by Syracuse EMS to Goshen Hospibd on Thursday afternoon, Sept. becoming ill while at school. Kryder was treated and released at the hospital and was able to return to his work the next day. MARY ANN BEER UNDERGOESTESTS Mrs. Carlton (Mary Ann) Beer, r 1, Milford, recently underwent tests at Goshen Hospital. She was released to her home on Monday,

Services were held Monday afternoon, Sept. 26, in the Smith and Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley. Burial was in the South Whitley Cemetery. Fred 0. Carey Fred O. Carey, 80, r 1, Leesburg, died at 7:15 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 24, 1988, in his home following an eight month illness. He was bom Dec. 15, 1907, in Huntington County to William O. and Bertha V. (Gregg) Carey. On Nov. 6,1927, in South Whitley, he married Esther Gardner, who survives. Carey lived in Kosciusko County since 1955, moving from South Whitley, and was owner of Fred O. Carey Realty Co., Inc., Warsaw. He was involved in construction in northern Indiana for 61 years and in land development for the past 20 years. A member of the Church of God, he was a former member of South Whitley Lions Club, and was a member of the Greater Warsaw Area Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include his wife, Esther Carey; four sons, Larry Carey, Warsaw, Jerry and Nicholas Carey, both of Fort Collins, Colo., and David Carey of the Syracuse/North Webster area; 13 grandchildren; 37 greatgrandchildren; one brother, Russell N. Carey, Huntington, and one nephew, Bill Carey, North Manchester. One sister and one brother preceded him in death. Services were held Tuesday

Basic medical terminology course

Goshen Hospital’s education department will present a basic medical terminology course beginning on October 11. The course will meet every • Tuesday and Thursday, 1:30-3 p.m. through November 17. All classes will be held in the education department’s auditorium. The purpose of the course is to provide the participant with basic principles of medical word building. It is open to anyone desiring to learn how to understand the language of medicine. The course starts with an introduction to medical abbreviations and then moves on to word components on a system-by-
