Lisa Bushong becomes bride of Kevin Spry in June ceremony
Lisa Diane Bushong, daughter of Ralph and Ann Bushong, Syracuse, became the bride of Kevin Lee Spry, son of Larry and Beverly Spry, Leesburg, on Saturday afternoon, June 18, in ’ the Wawasee Heights Baptist Church, Syracuse. The double-ring ceremony was witnessed by 175 guests. Rev. < Jerry Walden, Wawasee Heights Baptist Church, was the officiating clergyman. The altar of the church was decorated with a bouquet of ivory silk roses, royal blue ribbon and baby’s breath surrounding the unity candle/On each side were two brass candleholders with ivory candles. The candelabra had ivory candles with two silk fig trees gracing the front of the church. The church was decorated by Kathy Boyts. Musicians for the wedding were: Dottie Blakely, organist; Melissa Saul, vocalist; Tim Bushong, guitar; Ralph Bushong, trumpet; Ann Bushong, pianist; Anthony Beer, pianist, and Jeff Hatfield, cello. The bride’s father gave her away in marriage. The mothers -5 of the couple lit family candles before the ceremony began and a scripture reading that taught the importance of a marriage relationship was read. The bride wore her mother’s j wedding gown that had been made 30 years ago by a friend of s the bride’s grandmother. It ; featured a lace leaf applique I around the neckline with a deep | ‘V’ in the' back with buttons down the back. It had capped, pleated sleeves. She wore a brim hat with veil hanging in back and was | covered with fitted bodice lace. The bride carried a fresh ivory bouquet of cascading roses and I stephanotis. 4 Matron of honor was Julie Smith, Syracuse, sister of bride. Bridesmaid was Heidi Bushong, Syracuse, sister-in-law of the bride. They wore royal blue satin tea-length dresses with butterfly sleeves and a deep ‘V’ in back. They carried ivory silk flowers. ? The flower girl was Dawn . Kobb, Nappanee, cousin of the groom. She ; "tvore a?’tea-length - ivory satin dress with ruffled | hemline. It featured short sleeves : and a high waist. It was made by : Pat Sanders. The flower girl J dropped fresh royal blue rose petals as they walked down the 1 aisle. • The ring bearer was Jeffrey PLANNING WEDDING — Mary Eva Vester, r 1 box 593, North Webster, daughter of Richard L. and Deea A. Vester has become engaged to Wesley D. Coy of Syracuse, son of Pat Coy, Syracuse and .Marvin Coy, | Alabama. The bride-elect is currently attending Purdue University and majoring in child psychology and elementary education. The bridegrobm-elect is employed with Gunite Corporation of Elkhart. No wedding date has been set.

He carried a round ivory satin pillow with a layer of lace on top and a nosegay of miniature light blue roses and ribbons cascading. Best man was Paul Calloway, Warsaw. Groomsman was Carl Calloway, Warsaw. Ushers were Marion Acton, Milford, and Jim Lough, Syracuse. The men wore ivory tuxedos and royal blue cummerbunds and bow ties. The bride’s mother wore an ivory lace dress with lace long sleeves. The groom’s mother chose a light blue lace dress with lace long sleeves. A reception was held in the church basement following the ceremony. It was catered by Carol Moore. The cake was a pillar cake with cherubims around the base holding blue ribbons that cascaded from the top. The reception was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Bob (Judy) Burke. Servers were Joan Neer, New Paris; Agatha Eubank, Syracuse; Pat Price, Syracuse; Diane Strieby, Syracuse. Beth Sherman, Warsaw, sister of groom, was in charge of the Mobile Meals Drivers Volunteer drivers for Syracuse Mobile Meals have been scheduled for the week of August 22 — August 26. She is a member of the University Singers and is a piano performance major. The groom is a 1983 graduate of Wawasee High School and is employed as a baker at Dutchmaid Bakery, Goshen. Stoops and the former Opal Walters were married on Aug. 15,1928, in the bride’s home in Nappanee. Mr. and Mrs. Stoops are the parents of three sons, Dick and Tom Stoops of Warsaw and George Stoops of Mankato, Minn. The couple has seven grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Stoops are lifelong residents of Nappanee and Syracuse. Mr. Stoops is a retired vice president of United Telephone Company of Indiana.
Meals for older Americans
Meals for Older Americans are served each day at the following locations: The Scout Cabin, Syracuse; the Pierceton Community Building; Mentone Community Room in the fire station; the Retired Tigers Center, 320 W. Main, Warsaw; and the Church of the Brethren, North Webster. Meals for Older Americans is for persons 60 years or older and is a chance to meet new friends and enjoy hot, nutritional meals. The sites are opened several hours each day including noon for programs. Meals for Older Americans is not associated with welfare but is for the promotion for better health for the older population. Donations are accepted for the meals. The site directors request all persons planning on attending the meals to make reservations by 1 p.m. the day prior to attending. Phone 457-2631 for Syracuse transportation and reservations. There were 52 persons attending and enjoying a carry-in dinner at Ip.m. The president, Erma Chambers, led in the pledge to the flag. Rev. Hollinger gave the table grace. The tables were decorated with baskets and vases of flowers. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Carwile, Syracuse, and Marie Stephenson, Milford, were hosts for the day. Several announcements of meetings were given. The treasurer reported that there are 59 members paying dues. Everyone was also asked to remember the sick and shut-ins. The afternoon program, which proved to be most delightful and humorous, was given by the Singing Grandmothers of Middlebury. / The door prize was won by Vernon Miller. The group’s next meeting will be Sunday, Aug. 21, with Evelyn Orn and Bernice Ahrns in charge of arrangements. A carry-in dinner will be featured as part of the meeting.
Candace Meek, Brian Bibler married July 2 in Warsaw
Candace J. Meek, Warsaw, became the bride of Brian Bibler, also of Warsaw, at 12 noon on Saturday, July 2, in the First Christian Church, Warsaw. Rev. Paul Boden of Illinois performed the double-ring ceremony in the presence of 118 guests. Parents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. Mike Meek, Warsaw. The groom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Bibler, Warsaw. The church’s altar was decorated with palms and two baskets of white carnation arrangements. Helen Graham, Warsaw, was the organist. Danny and Marilyn Pitzer, also of Warsaw, presented the selection, “Prayer.” The bride’s satin gown, accented with simulated pearls and sequins, featured a stand-up neckline, puffed sleeves, full skirt with satin bow and a lace flounce hemline which extended into a chapel-length train. Her headdress of pearled lace with blusher was made by the bride’s aunt, Carol Shaw. The bridal bouquet consisted of roses and carnations interspersed with baby’s breath. Lori Meek, Warsaw, sister of the bride, was the maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Sherry DeTurk and Noelle DeTurk, both of Warsaw and cousins of the bride. The attendants wore floorlength satin gowns of daphne rose color which featured puffed sleeves. They each carried a long stem red rose with baby’s breath. Angie Schultz, Warsaw, cousin of the groom, was the flower girl. The ring bearer was Samuel Meek, Warsaw, brother of the bride. The best man was Bruce Bibler, father of the groom. Groomsmen were Gary Lamar, Mentone; and Brad Bibler, brother of the groom. Serving as ushers were Jim Feldman, uncle of the groom; and Bobby Cox, cousin of the groom. The bride’s mother wore a lavender floor-length satin and lace gown with puff sleeves. The groom’s mother chose a floorlength gown of blue and white rayon. Both mother’s wore pink rose corsages with baby’s breath.

At the reception, baskets of carnations and greenery highlighted the table. The threetier wedding cake was made by the bride’s aunt, Carol Shaw. Serving at the reception were Mrs. Shaw and Mrs. Harold Julian, both of Warsaw and aunts of the bride. Tracy Sechrist'hnd Tara Sechrist, both of Warsaw, and cousins of the bride, helped with the gifts. Mrs. Stephan Meek, Ligonier, aunt of the bride, was in charge of the guest book. The bride is a 1986 graduate of Warsaw Community High School and is employed at Woodie’s Supermarket, Warsaw. The groom, a 1988 graduate of Warsaw Community High School, is a member of the United States Army. Immediately following the reception, the newlyweds took a wedding trip to Disney World,
Orlando, Fla., and the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee. Mrs. Bibler is residing at r 7, Whispering Pines, Warsaw, while her husband is stationed at Fort Leonardwood, Mo. Kiwanis presents five scholarships The Wawasee Kiwanis Club presented five recent graduates with scholarships of S2OO each. Three of them, Cindy Nelson, Irene Hapner, and Mary Lou Hernandez, were present at the Saturday morning meeting of the Kiwanians. They each expressed their thanks and told where they are going to get their education. The other two recipients, Michaelle Graff and Danielle Miner, were not able to attend. Committee chairman, Tom Hodgson, will be getting their checks to them.
