Nancy Pratt Nancy (Alfrey) Pratt, 74, 312 Front St., Syracuse, died in her home at 1 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 6, 1988, following an extended illness. She was born July 22, 1914, in Hope, Ark., and was the daughter of Harry and Dema (Martin) Alfrey. She married William F. Pratt, who died in 1965. \ She had served wreh the WAVES during World War II and had resided in the Syracuse area for 25 years, moving from Palos Park, 111. Survivors include one stepdaughter, Mrs. Ronald (Judith) Witt, Texas; one stepson, Kenneth Handy, Orinda, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. C.K. (Martha) Kinder, and Mrs. F.B. (Frances) Brown, both of Naples, Fla.; and one brother, Harry (Jack) Alfrey, Syracuse. Graveside services were held Sunday afternoon, Aug. 7, in the Syracuse Cemetery with Rev. David Maish officiating. Memorials may be directed to the Hospice Program at Goshen General Hospital. Eva W. Belcher Eva W. Belcher, 91, r 1, Leesburg, died at 10 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 7,1988 in Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw. The daughter of James and Annie (Thompson) Wright, she was born Dec. 1, 1896, in Crawford County. On Dec. 22, 1913, she married George Belcher, who died in 1961. Mrs. Belcher had moved to Barbee Lake in 1972 from southern Indiana. She was a homemaker.

Clingaman, 69, r 1, Lake Estates, Warsaw, died at 5 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 6, 1988, in the Goshen General Hospital. She was the daughter of Earl and Laura (Butt) Boswell, and was born June 7,1919, in Wabash County. On Feb. 6,1938, she married Ralph Clingaman, who survives. Mrs. Clingaman moved to the North Webster area 26 years ago from Fort Wayne. She had retired from Wawasee High School where she had worked as a secretary. She was a member and secretary of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, a member of the Wawasee Garden Club and had been a former flower show judge for the Indiana Federation of Garden Clubs. Survivors include her husband, Ralph Clingaman; one daughter, Mrs. Ralph (Marilyn) Atkinson, Kentland; two sons, Ronald Clingaman, Las Vegas, Nev., and Richard Clingaman, Niles, Mich. ; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Olga Thurman, Phoenix, Ariz.; and two brothers, Hampton Boswell, Fort Myers, Fla., and Marion Boswell, Marion. Sunday, Aug. 7 Dismissals Mrs. Joe (Janice) Skaggs, Leesburg, and infant daughter MILFORD RESIDENT HOME FROM HOSPITAL Kenneth (“Kenny”) Goshert, r 1, Milford, was released from Goshen Hospital on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 6, after undergoing gall bladder surgery on Tuesday evening, Aug. 2. Goshert is reportedly making excellent recovery and will be recuperating for the next four to six weeks. State Blvd., Fort Wayne, was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital after the EMS was called to Griffith’s Marina at 3:05 p.m. Thursday, Aug., 4. North Webster EMS transported her to the hospital. Lucy Schwab, 74, 113 John St., Syracuse, was not taken to the hospital after the EMS was called to her home at 4:35 a.m. Friday, Aug. 5. Mike Fletcher, 39, r 4 box 34, Syracuse, was transported from Kosciusko Community Hospital to the Indianapolis Veterans Administration Hospital on Saturday, Aug. 6. The EMS was called to make the transport at 8:38 a.m. Sandra Geiger, 41, r 1 box 283 J, Syracuse, was not taken to a hospital after the EMS was called to her home at 7:31 p.m. Friday. Martha E. No other information is available. Forrest J. Hawley Forrest J. Hawley, 78,254911th Rd., Bourbon, died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 1988, at 3:16 p.m. in Lu Ann Nursing Home, Nappanee, following an extended illness. Hawley was born in Nappanee on April 7, 1910, to Arthur and Maude (Hepler) Hawley. He was a lifetime resident of the Bourbon-Millwood area. On November 25, 1913, he married Hona Craig who survives. He was a farmer and member of Albright Church, Bourbon. Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Mrs. Galen (Mary Ellen) Haney, North Webster, Mrs. Larry (Dorothy Jean) Haney, Milford, and Mrs. Richard (Carolyn) Summerville, Novi, Mich.; eight grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Kenneth (Marjorie) Troup, Elkhart, Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Sponseller, Warsaw, Mrs. Harvey (Evelyn) Welty, Jr., Bourbon, and Mrs. William (Delores) Gamble, Warsaw; and

Births SCHULDT, Kevin Christopher Mr. and Mrs. Bradley (Peg) Schuldt, 19851 SR 10W, Culver, are the parents of a son, Kevin Christopher, born at 2:41 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8, in South Bend Memorial Hospital. He weighed eight pounds, eight ounces and measured 20V 2 inches long. Kevin Christopher has three sisters, Ruth, 19, Alison, seven, and Cassandra, two; and one brother, Brian, three. She had been ill for four weeks. The daughter of Butler and Annie (Whitaker) Owens, she was born June 13, 1943, in Warsaw, and had been a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County. On March 3, 1962, in Silver Lake, she married Mitchell Bradford, who survives. Mrs. Bradford was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God, and had been employed at Prairie View Rest Home, Inc. Survivors include her husband, Mitchell Bradford; her mother, Mrs. Annie Owens, Silver Lake; two daughters, Bobbi Jo Bradford, at home; and Mrs.. Jeanenne Boyer, Syracuse; one son, Michael Bradford, Warsaw; five grandchildren; three sisters, Evalene Spangle, North Webster, Maggie England, Warsaw, and Murline Smith, Akron; four brothers, Valis and Dallas Owens, both of Warsaw, Dale Owens, Jonestown, Pa., and Gale Owens, Silver Lake. Kern Jacob E. Kern, Jr., 70, of Syracuse, died at 4 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 4, 1988, in his home following an extended illness. He was born Oct. 2, 1917, in Syracuse, and was the son of Jacob Sr. and Ruth (Jeffries) Kern. On Sept. 30, 1939, he married Magdalene Hartter, who survives. Kern was a lifetime resident of the Syracuse area and had been a farmer. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Syracuse. William McCreary William McCreary, 65, died at 6:50 p.m., Friday, Aug. 5,1988, in Miller’s Merry Manor, where he resided. He was born on May 20,1923, in Milford, and was the son of Roy and Ruth (Miller) McCreary. He was a lifetime resident of the Milford area. Survivors include one brother, Rodney McCreary, Milford. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Richard (Mary) Wagner. Services were held Sunday afternoon, Aug. 7, in the Mishler Funeral Home, Milford, with Kevin Rhoads officiating. Burial was in the Maple Grove Cemetery, New Paris. Elizabeth Frush Elizabeth Frush, 80, Terre Haute, and formerly of Warsaw, died at 12:20 p.m., Monday, Aug. 8, 1988, in the Community Hospital, Indianapolis. She was born May 27,1908, and was the daughter of Elkana Blaine and Lucretia Herron. She lived in Oswego until 1939 when she moved to Carmel. In 1978, she moved to Terre Haute. On Aug. 4, 1934, she married Myron Frush, who died April 6, 1969. She taught in Leesburg and Indianapolis before retiring in 1977. She was a member of the Indiana State Teacher’s Association, and the Queen Esther Order Eastern Star in Indianapolis. She also formerly held membership with the Warsaw Magazine Club. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. William (Rebecca) Speer, Terre Haute; two sons, Eugene Frush, Vandalia, Mich., and John Frush, Carmel; one sister, Mrs. Ned (Connie) Maze, Barbee, and five grandchildren. Friends may call today, Wednesday, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. in Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. Services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 11, in the Titus Funeral Home in Warsaw. Rev. CAR TRAIN COLLISION — Milford firemen extinguish the remaining hot spots on a 1988 Camaro that caught fire after being struck by a train last Wednesday evening at CR 1350 N in Milford Junction. -10 YEARS AGO, AUG. 10,1978 H. C. Colwell, an employee at the South Bend Post Office, has been named Milford’s new postmaster. He will be sworn in during ceremonies set for 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Milford Post Office: Lt. Gov. Robert Orr spoke at the nation-wide Barth dealer meeting Tuesday, Aug. 8, at the Barth plant in Milford. The speech was given on the front lawn of the plant and lasted for approximately 15 minutes. Mike Umbaugh, Barth president, welcomed the dealers from California, Texas, Indiana and the East Coast. 20 YEARS AGO, AUG. 7,1968 One of Milford’s old landmarks is coming down to make way for an uptown parking area. The home on Main street, known as the McDonald residence, is the victim of progress. The house, 80 to 90 years old, was purchased by N. John Perry and B. N. Sharp and is being torn down to make way for a public parking lot by the two merchants. Brock Manufacturing, Inc., has recently purchased 45 acres of land at the north edge of Milford along the west side of highway 15 across from its present plant. At the present time the company of-

ficials have no plans for the land purchased, but they feel that both Milford and Brock have good prospects for growth. 30 YEARS AGO, JULY 31,1958 The heavy rains Tuesday afternoon resulted in quite severe damage to buildings and crops in the near Milford area. Considerable damage was done to the roof of the Harvey Hollar home and to the Hollar barn and shed. Wayne Harman reported corn and oats were flattened in a strip about one mile wide in the Hastings vicinity. Mike Treesh, r 2 Milford, has enrolled in DePauw University’s first basketball and recreational sports camp, scheduled from August 3 to 9. The camp will be headed by Elmer McCall, DePauw’s new basketball coach and former mentor at South Bend Central high school. 50 YEARS AGO, AUGUST 4,1938 After visiting the Wisconsin Dells, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Reuter, daughter, Wretha, and son, Vernon, attended the annual International Baby Chick Convention at St. Paul, Minnesota. The Milford Fair and Homecoming, sponsored by the American Legion Post No. 226 will open in Milford next Wednes-
day, August 10, and will continue throughout the week. Rusk and Michael have arranged for two horsepulling contests, as special features of this fair. One arrested One incident of theft and the disturbance of private property were investigated last week by Syracuse Police. One arrest was made as a result of the theft investigation. Donald P. Deck of Marsh Harbor Condos, Harkless Road, reported that someone had driven over newly planted lawn at the condos and caused considerable damage. The incident occurred sometime between midnight and 9 a.m. Saturday. No estimate of damage was given. Two diamond rings valued at $875 and approximately SIOO in cash were taken from the Linda Broekers residence at Wawasee Heights sometime between 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, and 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3. The thieve gained access through a partially opened window. Upon investigation of the theft, a 17-year-old Syracuse youth was apprehended and is in custody at the Kosciusko County Jail on theft charges. Some of the jewelry was also recovered.
