The group left Milford on Thursday, July 28, at 3 p.m. and spent the night at Cincinnati Bible College (CBC). They spent all day Friday at Kings Island and that night at CBC and returned home on Saturday, July 30. The trip was made by 24 kids and seven sponsors. Tim and Robin Stiffler drove the bus and Larry and Cindy Harman drove the support vehicle. Dean Culbertson, Bob Casey and Derek Kreider went along as chaperones. A good time was had by all and new friends were made. A fact learned by the group was that “The Bible that is falling apart usually belongs to someone who is not.”

Day camp at Bethel Church

A day camp is being planned by the Bethel Church of the Brethren’ in Milford this year instead of a Vacation Bible School. The church is located at the corner of East and Catherine Streets. Important Brethren beliefs and Brethren leaders who depict these beliefs will be studied during the day camp which will be held from Aug. 15-19. The children will meet at the church at 9 a.m. each morning. Each child will need to take a packed lunch because different field trips have been planned for each day to enhance the group’s study. Parents should plan to pick up their children at 2 p.m. each afternoon at the church. On Monday, the camp group will study about the founder of the Church of the Brethren, Alexander Mack. As most area residents are aware, this is the name of the Church of the Brethren camp on the north side of Waubee Lake. Since Mack was a miller, the plan is to visit Bonneyville Mill, Bristol, to see the mill in action. . On Tuesday the day campers will study the importance of the Bible as they learn about Christopher Sauers and his son, Christopher Jr., who printed the first Bibles in German in this country. Since both were printers, the plan is for the group to visit The Papers Incorporated in Milford to see printing as it is done today. A Bible printed by the Sauers will also be seen. / On Wednesday, the service role of the church will be the emphasis of a study about Dan West, who began the Heifer Project. There will be a visit to the Heifer Project regional office, just north

of Benton. On Thursday, the group will study about John Kline and the. peace position of the Church of the Brethren. As John Kline traveled about 100,000 miles in his ministry, mostly on horseback, the day’s activities will include riding horses at the Ernest Jehnsen residence. Friday will feature a boat trip to Camp Mack as the campers study about Anna Mow, who rode a boat to India to serve as a missionary. In her later years she spoke to many camp, retreat and conference gatherings. For further information or to register for the day camp, contact Pastor Verne Leininger at 658-4331 or 658-4335. Special message at New Salem Church “From the Cradle To the Electric Chair” will be the special message of Rev. Kenneth W. Hollinger at New Salem Church of the Brethren, at the 10:30 a.m. service on Aug. 14. The message is a special one which was shared with the pastor by Carl N. Senn 30 years ago. Senn served over 26 years as education superintendent at the Ohio State penitentiary. In this message he follows the life of three people who went to the electric chair in Ohio. Rev. Hollinger became acquainted with Senn when he was a minister at Junction City, in Perry County, Ohio, where there was a branch of the penitentiary. New Salem Church is located at the corner of CR 900 N and CR 200E, southeast of Milford.
