Stoffel, Waltz share golf honors
Gloria Stoffel took first place (18-holes) in South Shore’s ladies’ points game Tuesday, July 26. Dee Johnson was second, while Deb Kemper took third. In nine-hole play this week, Jo Waltz captured low gross honors and Olive Locke had the second low gross. One week ago, Karen Caudill took low gross honors in 18-hole competition with Donna Bevington placing second. Low net went to Judy Dick and low putts, Millie Lotter. Forms for the examination are in the main office of the high school. Wawasee to pass out football gear SYRACUSE — Wawasee football equipment will be passed out to all seniors and returning lettermen Wednesday, July 27, from 7-8 p.m. in the varsity locker room. All remaining junior varsity and varsity players can obtain their equipment the following day from 7-8 p.m. The distribution of equipment for freshman players will be announced next week. Wawasee head football coach Myron Dickerson announced the Warriors’ first practice will be Monday, Aug. 8, at 3 p.m. on the main football field. New Paris race results NEW PARIS — Saturday night, July 30 will be the National ServAll Mid-Season Championships at the New Paris Speedway for outlaw super late models, late models, and street stocks. Gates open at noon with tirpe trials at 6 and racing at 8 p.m. The outlaw super late models finds less than 50 points separating the top three in points; Clete Caywood of South Bend, Larry Zent of Fort Wayne, and Fred Reed of Niles: Doug Hanna of Goshen tops the late models with Errol Thompson of Elkhart second. John Oliver of Pierceton leads the street stocks. Syracuse stand-out drivers include Glen Laughlin in outlaws, Randy Niles in late models, and Larry Michael and Bob Schisler in street stocks. Ski Club hosts tourney The Water Ski Inc. ski team will be hosting the Indiana state water ski championships this Saturday and Sunday, July 30-31 at two lakes near Milford. The slalom and trick events will be held at Cindonway Shores located on CR 300E, just west of Dewart Lake, and the jump event will be at Camelot Lake near Milford. All slalom skiing will be on Saturday, with trick skiing held Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning at Cindonway. Jumping will be only on Sunday at Camelot Lake. This will be the second time for Cindonway Shores to host this tournament and more than 125 contestants are expected to attend. Many clubs throughout the state will be competing for the team championship title. Skiers in all age divisions will be taking part in the action which will begin at 7 a.m. each day. Spectators are welcome to watch the action free of charge. More information about the tournament can be obtained from Water Ski, Inc., r 5 box 310, Syracuse. Phone 658-9305.
