Wawasee football on the horizon

Anyway, football seems to be an emotional lift for many high school students and teachers. It means the beginning of something new with anticipation of success each Friday evening. On The Mark MARK BL WEINSTEIN W jB W -Jp For Wawasee’s Myron Dickerson, the term ‘new’ will take on a different meaning this year. Not only will he coach a new team (don’t worry Warrior fans, he’s still at Wawasee) but a new coaching staff. To be more specific, a very young coaching staff. In announcing his new staff a few weeks back,, Dickerson chuckled that he might have to take his coaches bv the hand on

opening night and lead them to the field. His remarks were based on the age and experience of each coach. Some Wawasee fans, when viewing the Warriors this season, may think Dickerson has changed positions — from head football coach to head baby sitter. In all honesty, the coaches are young in age and experience, but the head mentor doesn’t believe that will hinder his program. It might take some time for the unit to gel, but in time this could be his finest staff at Wawasee. Reflecting on the previous staff (Joe Trimboli, Kim Lobsiger and Jim Jones) those words are powerful. The departing coaches will be missed because they were men of character and integrity. Dickerson hopes the incoming gentlemen can match up with the former Warrior coaches in those departments. As for Dickerson, well, he continues to move forward with the

program he started several years ago. Sometimes he walks to the beat of a different drummer, but the bottom line with the head coach is the success, integrity and class he’s brought Wawasee on the football field. The positive characteristics follow the mentor from the field into the educational building. Wawasee athletes are better off because of their athletic instruction. □ Wawasee High School recently . hired Kem Zollman as its junior varsity boys’ basketball coach. He replaces Neal Frantz who will spend his coaching energy in the baseball program. Zollman will teach math at the highschool. In other coaching moves, Jill Yoder was hired as varsity girls’ volleyball coach and Scott Dehart was named assistant wrestling coach.

petition last week at Milford’s Big Boulder golf course. Winners were Ruby McClarnon, first; Beatrice Rapp, second; and Marilyn Bray, third. The following week, poker hand was the deal — with best score five numbers drawn. Bonnie Newman took first place, while Mary Cochran was second and Elaine Weiss was third.

Usually, the street stock class is the cheapest and most stock, class at any race track. And* usually the class pays the least to { win. But this Saturday S2OO is the I top prize for the winner of the 40 lap street stock feature, which is a record top prize for that class at New Paris. In the outlaw division less than 60 points separates the top three in points. Clete Caywood of South Bend, Larry Zent of Fort Wayne, and Fred Reed of Niles are hooked up in a three way points chase. » Doug Hanna of Goshen has a comfortable margin over Errol Thompson of Elkhart in the late model division. On the distaff side, Cindy Stremme of South Bend and Brenda Burns and Nancy Taylor of Elkhart are doing great in competition with the men drivers. Gates are scheduled to open at 2, with time trials at 6, and racing at 8 p.m.
