Plan to dredge channels Applications have been submitted to the US Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville, Ky., for two dredging operations. *" One is for dredging a lake channel at Big Chapman Lake to improve boat access. Stephen C. Haney, r 6 box 362-C, Warsaw, is proposing to dredge the channel bottom to a depth of four feet . below the established level of Big Chapman Lake. The dredging' would begin at a distance of eight feet lakeward of the legal shoreline and uniformly slope to a depth of three feet or less at the legal shoreline. The channel would be dredged for a distance of approximately 150 feet and approximately eight feet wide. The dredged material wauld be spread across the three lots owne<J by the application, at a depth of approximately three inches, and spread approximately 125 feet landward of the lakeshore. The second request is from Kosciusko County Drainage Board, 100 W. Center Street, Courthouse, room 25, Warsaw. This proposal involves the channel enlargement of Robinson Ditch from Hoffman Lake to CR 875 W bridge. The proposed typical cross-section varies from eight feet to 25 feet wide at the bottom with one-to-one sideslopes. Approximately 13,000 cubic yards of material would be excavated by increasing the depth of the ditch by approximately three feet. The excavated material would be removed by various methods including temporary staging piles, placed adjacent to the channel within a 35-foot wide area, leveled anji seeded. The material would be placed on the south (left) bank from 1,000 feet downstream of Hoffman Lake to Old Highway 30 Bridge and on the north (right) bank to CR 875 W bridge. Any person may request in writing, within the tiipe period, that a public hearing be held to consider these applications. A request for a public hearing must state the specific interest which might be damaged by issuance of the DA permits.
