Eli I. Miller Eli I. Miller, 73, 30197 CR 56, Nappanee, died Monday, May 30, 1988, at 2:50 p.m. in his home. He was born in Nappanee on May 19, 1915, to Isaac A. and Suvilla (Miller) Miller. On December 11, 1945, in Nappanee, he married Lovina Hostetler. She survives. Miller was a lifetime resident of Nappanee, a cabinet maker, and member of the Old Order Amish Church. Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Mrs. Ervin (Carol Sue) Schwartz, Nappanee, Mrs. Menno (Rosemary) Schwartz, Nappanee, and Sara Miller, at home; one son, Isaac Miller, Middlebury; 18 grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Amos (Lizzie Ann) Chupp, Etna Green, Mrs. Joe (Sarah) Chupp, Nappanee, Mrs. Andrew (Emma) Wagner, Wakarusa, and Mrs. Perry (Laura) Miller, Middlebury. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Miriam Mae Miller and one sister. Friends may call in the Miller home all day today, Wednesday, and Thursday before the 2:30 p.m. service which will be held in the home. Emery Yoder, bishop, and Tobias Miller, minister, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Weldy Cemetery, Nappanee. Mishler Funeral Home, Milford, was in charge of arrangements. Edward L. Hutchings fedward L. (Ed) Hutchings, 74, 700 East Greenhaus Drive, Syracuse, died at 6 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, 1988, in Miller’s Merry Manor. He was born Feb. 9, 1914, in Sparta, Tenn., the son of Douglas, and Dollie (Williams) Hutchings. He married Ila Mae Garrett, on Oct. 21,1934, she survives. He moved the Syracuse three years ago from Sparta, and had been self employed as a carpenter. He was a member of Syracuse Nazarene Church. In addition to his wife, Ila Mae Hutchings, survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Betty) Strauss, Cromwell, and Mrs. Roger (Nancy) Brian, Syracuse; one son, Tommy Lee Hutchings, Syracuse; seven grandchildren; five step grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two step great-great grandsons; two sisters, Irene Evans, Charlotte, Mich., and Lucille Rudd, Kokomo; and one brother, Daniel Hutchings, Missouri.

Kiser, 75, r 2 North Webster, died at 6:22 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 1988, upon arrival at Kosciusko Community Hospital, of an apparent heart attack. She was born July 28, 1912, in New Paris. A lifelong resident of the North Webster-Syracuse area, she married Ralph Kiser of June 13,1975, he survives. A member of the North Webster Church of the Brethren, she retired from the Syracuse Rubber Company in 1976. Survivors include her husband, Ralph Kiser; one stepson, Terry Kiser, North Webster; one sister, Mrs. Lester (Ethel) Stabler, North Webster; one brother, Wilbur Niles, Syracuse; and three step grandsons. Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, in the' Eastlund-Harris Funeral Home, Syracuse, with Revs. Ralph Smith and Emery Kintner officiating. Burial was in the North Webster Cemetery. Perry Crauder Perry Crauder, 72, 3769 Ind. 10, Bourbon, died at 12:10 a.m Wednesday, May 25, 1988, in the Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne following a nine-day illness. He was born Jan. 7, 1916 in Macy, he was the son of William and Carrie Mae (Morgan) Crauder. He was a lifetime resident of the Tippecande/Bourbon area, and was an auto mechanic for 45 years, having worked for Wayne Love Motors, and Nellans Motors, Warsaw. Survivors include two daughters, Jeanne Salisbury, North Webster and Beverly Drubert, Richardson, Texas; and five grandchildren. Services were held Friday, May 27, in the Deaton Funeral Home, Bourbon with Rev. Ralph Smith officiating. Burial was in the Summit Chapel Cemetery, Bourbon. His condition was reported as stable this morning (Wednesday). PAULINE SPEICHER SUSTAINS INJURIES Milford resident Pauline Speicher was returning to her home on Monday, May 30, after watching the Memorial Day parade when she fell on a sidewalk near the corner of Catherine and James streets in Milford. Mrs. Speicher underwent a 3%-hour surgery that evening in Goshen Hospital for a broken right knee, broken right elbow and broken right shoulder. It is
May 26,1988, in Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, Ala., following an extended illness. Born Feb. 11, 1933, in Syracuse, she was the daughter of Warren and Evelyn (Strock) Fisher and had been a resident of Montgomery for one year. She was previously employed in the circulation department of the Warsaw Times 1 inion, Warsaw, and was a mt. er of the Milford First Brethren Church. Survivors include her parents, Warren and Evelyn Fisher, Syracuse; three daughters, Mrs. Gary (Karen) Daniels, Montgomery, Mrs. Randy (Vicki) Coverstone, Newark, Calif., and Lisa Walker, St. Petersburg, Fla.; one brother, Warren (Bud) Fisher, Nappanee; and her maternal grandmother, Marie Strock, Butler. Services were held Sunday, May 29, in the Mishler Funeral Home, Milford with the Rev. Alvin Shifflett, minister of Nappanee First Brethren Church officiating. Burial was in the Milford Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association. John E. Reed John E. Reed, 94, died at 8:45 a.m. Monday, May, 30, 1988, in Fountainview Place, Goshen, where he had resided since July of 1987. He was born Oct. 6, 1893, in Nappanee. He married Eva M. Linn on Dec. 13, 1915, in Centerville, Mich. She died Nov. 14, 1966. Reed was a retired farmer and a member of the East Goshen Mennonite Church and lived in the Goshen area for 50 years. Surviving are five daughters, Marian Lung and Alice Furney, both of Goshen, Betty McKibben and Ethel Hughes, both of Syracuse, and Margaret Stutzman, Nappanee; two son, George A. Reed, Cromwell and Charles Redd, Goshen; 18 eight step grandchildren; 53 great grandchildren; and 26 great great grandchildren. Mr. Reed was preceded in death by a son, Robert, who died in 1944 in World War II and a son Carlyle, who died in infancy. Friends may valle from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday,.(today), in the Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. The service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Officiating will be the Rev. MARIA LOZANO IN HOSPITAL FOR TESTS Mrs. Alex (Maria) Lozano, r 1, Milford, will be undergoing further tests today (Wednesday) in Goshen Hospital. She was admitted to the hospital on Sunday, May 29. COY IN HOSPITAL FOR OBSERVATION Ermal Coy, r 3, Syracuse, an employee of the Kosciusko County Highway Department, was admitted to Goshen Hospital on Monday, May 30, for observation and tests. He is reported to be in fair condition at this time. Coy is in Room 305. ED CHUPP BECOMES ILL MONDAY EVENING Ed Chupp, who resides on James Street, Milford, became ill on Monday evening, May 30, and was taken to the Goshen Hospital Emergency room where he was treated and released. He was reportedly feeling a little better on Tuesday. Syracuse EMS The Syracuse Emergency Medical Service made the following ambulance runs this past week: Edith Evans, 49, r 1 box 283H1, Syracuse, was taken to Goshen Hospital after the EMS was called to her home at 8 a.m. Tuesday, May 24. The EMS was called to Pier 72 at 7:17 p.m. Tuesday. Randy Verberkamous, 25, Columbia City, was taken to Goshen Hospital. Leroy Mason, 71, r 3 box 174, Syracuse, was taken to Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, on Friday, May 27, after the EMS was called to his home at 2:13 a.m. Stephanie Davis, four, r 1 box 418A, Syracuse, was not transported to a hospital after the EMS was called to her home at 7:36 p.m. Friday. Eberly, 76, r 1 North Webster, died at 11:30 p.m. Sunday, May 29, 1988,, in the Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, from complications following surgery. She was born Nov. 17, 1911, near Pierceton and was a lifetime North Webster resident. She married Willis Eberly, who survives, on Feb. 28,1931. A member of the North Webster Church of God, she worked as a secretary for the former Eberly Oil Company, North Webster. Survivors include her husband, Willis Eberly; one daughter, Mrs. Dawn Taylor, Benton Harbor, Mich.; two grandchildren; and one brother, Darrell Fetters, St. Ignes, Mich. Wagner, 87, 4267 Nelsonbark Ave., Lakewood, Calif., died Sunday, May 29,1988, in Empress Convelescent Home, Lakewood. He had been ill and a resident there about a year. He was born Aug. 23, 1900, in Wakarusa and lived most of his life in the Elkhart area. He married Anne B. Hostetler in October 1921, and she died June 18,1984. Mr. Wagner is survived by one daughter, Jeanne Vivian, Lakewood; two grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Banta, Lake Wawasee, Syracuse and Grace Blosser, Bluffton, Ohio. Iva Marie Klotz Iva Marie Klotz, 84, r 2, Nappanee, died Monday, May 30, 1988, in Goshen Hospital from injuries sustained in a car-truck accident May 23 which claimed the life of her husband, Harold Klotz, Sr., 85. Mr. and Mrs. Klotz were eastbound on Bowser Road (CR 1200 N) crossing the intersection with SR 13, Syracuse, when their auto was struck by a southbound pickup truck driven by Thomas W. Freel, 28, r 2 box 50, North Webster. *At the time of the accident, Freel told police that he had the green light and that Mr. Klotz ran a red light. Upon questioning Mrs. Klotz, she stated that they had the green light. It was raining very hard at the time of the accident. On December 29, 1923, she married Harold Klotz, Sr., in Elkhart. She was a housewife, helped her husband farm, and was a member of the Millwood Chapel Christian Church near Nappanee. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Mary Lou) Dougherty, Nappanee, and Mrs. Harold (Marjorie) Berkey, Goshen; two sons, Harold Klotz, Jr., and Paul Klotz, both of Nappanee; 32 grandchildren; 42 greatgrandchildren; five-* stepgreatgrandchildren; one brother, Howard Mikel, Nappanee; and one sister, Mrs. Lloyd (Audrey) Rummel, Etna Green. She was preceded in death by three brothers, one son, and one daughter. Services will be held tomorrow, Thursday, at 2 p.m. in Union Center Church of the Brethren with Rev. Roger Myers, pastor of the Millwood Chapel, officiating. Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery. CAR FIRE — Milford Fire Department was called to a junk yard owned by Dean and Mary Spicher west of Milford, off of Emeline Street, last Friday at approximately 4:15. p.m. A junk car that Spicher was cutting upand taking the engine out of caught'on fire. ACCIDENT AT OVERHEAD — A jeep-truck collision occurred last evening, Tuesday, at the overhead on SR 15, north of Milford. Rob Williams, 19, 20 Connor Court, Milford, driver of this 1985 Jeep, was southbound on SR 15 and crested the hill when he came upon a truck driven by Leonard Kline, 41, r 3 box 647, Syracuse, who had stopped to make a left turn. Williams couldn’t stop in time to avoid the collision. Williams, Kline, and Kline’s daughter, Sarah Kline, a passenger, were transported to Goshen Hospital by Milford EMS. Mr. Kline was treated for cuts on the back of his head, Miss Kline for a scrap to the ~ back of her head. Williams was not injured. Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department investigated.
