Churches hold VBS in June
With summer vacation here for most public and private school students, it is again time for area churches to finalize plans for their Vacation Bible Schools (VBS). Churches who have their Bible Schools schedules early in June are listed below. The Apostolic Christian Church of Milford will hold its Bible School classes for children and adults June 13 through 17 at 7:30 p.m. The message on a different topic each night will be by a visiting minister of the denomination. Everyone is welcome to attend. New Salem Church of the Brethren will hold its VBS from 7 to 8:30 each evening, June 6-10. The sessions are titled, “Into the Summer With Jesus Christ. ” Milford Chapel Mennonite Chapel VBS will last for two weeks, from June 20 through July 1. The title for the first week will be “What God Does for Me.” The

The church is located east of Milford on the Milford/Syracuse Road. Everyone is welcome. The six-member Hueni family, which consists of Herb, Phyllis and their children, Brian, Renee, Sheryl, and Kevin, have been singing together for 17 years in churches and for special events. Mrs. Hueni is the former Phyllis Graff of Milford. They have sung locally, from Illinois to the East Coast, from Canada to Florida and in the Caribbean Islands. Through the years, they have recorded three albums. The goal of the family is to share the good news of salvation through song and God’s Word. Many have been blessed through the spiritual harmony of this family.

Ellison has retired from the ministry. New ministry at Christian Church A new Bible class for solo women will begin Sunday, June 5, at 9 a.m. at Milford Christian Church. Realizing that women who are widowed, divorced or never married have special problems and needs, the church, by the grace of Jesus, wishes to help minister to them. The church desires to help them find themselves and to find Jesus as their personal Saviour. TO PRESENT PROGRAM — The Men’s Fellowship of the Bethel Church of the Brethren will be hosting a meeting for the Milford community on Sunday evening, June 5, at 7:30 p.m. Verne Edward, left, and John Leininger will present a program about their experiences in Germany as students. The program will be illustrated by slides. This is an opportunity to get to know these young men who moved to Milford with their parents last August. It will enable everyone to share some of their recent past. Verne Edward went to Germany in January of this year while enrolled in the course, “Christianity in Germany” at Manchester College. He took pictures as the class talked with civic and church leaders on both sides of the Iron Curtain. John went to Germany as an exchange student following his senior year in high school. Their combined slides and narration promise to be a worthwhile travelogue of Germany today. The public is cordially invited to attend this service. Youth and children are especially welcomed.

Oakwood services to begin June 5
Summer worship services are now scheduled for this year in Reuben H. Mueller Auditorium at Oakwood Center on Lake Wawasee. This is the North Indiana Conference center of the United Methodist Church. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Worship services are sponsored by the Oakwood Worship Committee. On June 5, Rev. Fuhrman P. Miller, retired, will give the message. Kevin Miller will be the liturgist and Rev. and Mrs. Orla Bradford will provide special music. On June 12, Rev. Robert E. Dungy, pastor of Sunnycrest UMC in Marion and consultant for the conference council of ministries, will speak. On June 19, The chancel choir of Trinity United Methodist Church of Plymouth will sing. It is directed by Sandy Burroughs. On June 26, Rev. Richard Lyndon, associate director of Local Church Ministries, will give the message. On July 3, Rev. Christine K. Newman-Jacobs, associate pastor of First United Methodist Church, Valparaiso, will be the speaker. On July 10, Rev. Susan D. Messenger, co-pastor of Congress Street United Methodist Church in Lafayette will bring the message. On July 17, the Apostolic Christian Church Conference will use the auditorium. On July 24, Rev. Mike Johnson. Rev. Johnson underwent surgery for the removal of a kidney on Friday, May 27, at Goshen Hospital. Nor does he play the guitar - or the drums — or the violin. But can he sing! Hoosier born and bred, he resides in Warsaw with his wife, Linda, and their two sons. After a stint as a security guard for a major corporation and then as a member of the quality control team at Owens-Illinois, the Warners felt that the Lord was leading them to reach more people through music with the message of the gospel. Now they are traveling farther and farther each year to minister through music. Pastor Jerry Walden and the people of Wawasee Heights Baptist Church invite all to join them as Warner ministers through music. Seating is limited to 200.
