Jeannette Smith Jeannette Catherine (Botteron) Smith, 81, died at 3:40 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, 1988, in the Lakeland Loving Care Center, Milford. Mrs. Smith was a lifelong resident of Fort Wayne, moving to Lakeland Loving Care Center in October of 1981. She was a retired teacher of the Fort Wayne Community Schools, teaching at Forest Park and Harrison Hill Jr. High. She was a lifetime member of Phi Mu sorority. She graduated from Central High School and Indiana University and was a member of Trinity English Lutheran Church of Fort Wayne. Survivors include one son, R. Clark, Milford; three grandchildren; one brother, Lewis Botteron, Auburn; and four nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, F. Roland Smith, two sisters and one brother. Friends may call today, Wednesday, from 7-9 p.m. in D. 0. McCombs Lakeland Chapel, Fort Wayne. Services will be held there tomorrow, Thursday, at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to Trinity English Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne. Charles Lewallen Charles Maurice Lewallen, 75, r 1 North Webster, died at 5:10 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 1988, in the Greencroft Nursing Center, Goshen. He was born near North Webster on Jan. 4,1913, the son of Clarence and Elsie (Weimer) Lewallen. He was married to Ruby Firestone on Aug. 29, 1938, she survives. He owned and operatd the Lewallen Sawmill for 25 year. He retired as a security guard from Essex Wire, Syracuse. He lived in the North Webster area all of his life and was a member of Steam and Gas Engine Clubs, including the Northeastern Indiana Club, Maumee Club, Jay County Club and Jones Michigan Club. Survivors include his wife, Ruby Lewallen, two daughters, Mrs. Loren (Karen) Keister, Albion and Mrs, Jack (Eva) Hamilton, Milford; three sons, Jerry Lewallen, Cromwell, Larry Lewallen, Auburn, and Dennis Lewallen, Oswego; 14 grandchildren; six greatgrandchildren; one sister, Evelyn Bowser, and one brother, Jack Lewallen, both of North Webster.

Chicago Rd., White Pigeon, Mich., died Sunday, May 15,1988, at 12:05 a.m. EDT in Sturgis Hospital, Sturgis, Mich. Duncan was born on August 21, 1930, in Swayzee. He had resided in Milford from 1947-56 and moved to White Pigeon in 1958. On August 7, 1949, in Milford, he married Phyllis Wuthrich. She survives. Surviving in addition to his are two sons, David Duncan, White Pigeon, Mich., and Gerry Duncan, Constantine, Mich.; one sister, Thelma Isaac, Swayzee; two brothers, James Duncan, Marion, and Russell Duncan, Pasadena, Md.; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Marvin Duncan, on December 18,1962. Services were held in Mishler Funeral Home, Milford, this morning, Wednesday, at 10:30 with Rev. Norman Hill officiating. Burial followed in Milford Cemetery. Burtis Virgil Kline Burtis Virgil Kline, 75, died at 12:15 a.m., Wednesday, May 11, 1988, in Mason Health Care Facility, Warsaw, following an extended illness. He was born in Milford on May 20, 1912, the son of Charles and Lilly (Lear) Kline. He spent his early years in LaGrange County, but lived most of his life in Kosciusko County. Survivors include one sister, Emma Harris, Falls Church, Va., and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held Friday, May 13 in the Circle Cemetery, Hudson, Ind. Florence E. Miller Mrs. Russell (Florence E.) Miller, 85, formerly of 14091 C.R. 50, Syracuse, died Tuesday, May 10, 1988, in the Kenney Retirement Community Center. Services were held Saturday, May 14, in the Rieth, Rohrer & Ehert Funeral Home. Rev. Amos A. Poe Amos A. Poe, 76, Leesburg, died at li:07 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, 1988, in Kosciusko Community Hospital. He had been in failing health for several years. Bom is Prestonsburg, Ky., on Feb. 21, 1912, the son of Andres and Betty (Bays) Poe. He married Annie McGuire, who survives. A Leesburg resident for the past 26 years, he was employed by Phend & Brown, until retiring in 1973. In addition to his wife, Annie, survivors include four daughters, Ethel Kendrick, Lucy Davis, and Lois Crace, all of Prestonsburg, and Mabel Rickel, Palestine, Ind.; seven sons, David, Ronnie and Amos Poe, Jr. all of Leesburg, Billy Poe, Warsaw, Elbert Poe, Lakeland, Fla., Ike Poe, Louisville, Ky., and John Poe, Prestonsburg; one sister, Aggie Gibson, Warsaw; 17 grandchildren; amd two great grandchildren. One sister and two brothers preceded him in death. Services were held in the Carter Funeral Home, Prestonsburg. Vern Rassi Vern W. Rassi, 81, 514 N. Eighth St., died at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 1988, in his home of an apparent heart attack. Born May 15, 1906, in Milford, he was married Oct. 22, 1927, in Goshen, to Mildred Lewallen. Most of his lifetime was spent in the area.„ He retired from the former Chase Bag Co., and was a member of Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Rassi, three daughters, Mrs. Floyd (Marie) Miller, New Paris, Mrs. Cornelius (Shirley) Hoogenboom and Mrs. Ed (Janet) Fry, both of Goshen; eight grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Carris (Della) Talkington, Goshen, Mrs. Warren (Florence) Hahn, New Carlisle, and Viola Bontrager, Scottsdale, Ariz.; and four brothers, Leonard Rassi, Goshen, Harold Rassi, South Bend, Ralph Rassi, Vandalia, Mich., and Thomas Rassi, Middlebury; Two brothers, Raymond and Lloyd Rassi, preceded him in death. Ed Hutchings, 74, r 4, Greenhaus Apartments, Syracuse, was transported from Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, to Miller’s Merry Manor, Syracuse, on Thursday, May 12. The ambulance left for Parkview at 11:33 a.m. Bill Fisher, 47, P.O. Box 421, Syracuse, was taken to Michiana Community Hospital, South Bend, on Sunday, May 15, after the EMS was called to his home at7:3oa.m. The EMS was called to Quaker Haven, Dewart Lake, at 2 p.m. Sunday. Randy Abbott, 29, r 1 box 67, Garthage, was taken to Goshen Hospital. Velma Ruth Sheline Velma Ruth Sheline, 81, 101 Dolan Drive, Syracuse, died at 10 p.m. Wednesday, May 11,1988, in St. Vincent’s Hospital, Indianapolis, following an illness of several months. Bom in Elkhart County on Sept. 4, 1906, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Data (Hire) Juday. Mrs. Sheline was a cook in several Syracuse area restaurants. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Ted (Velda) Fulford and Mrs. Betty Broekers, both of Syracuse, and Mrs. Frank (Burdene) Meyer, Goshen; two sons, Theldon (Bud) Kline, Syracuse and Howard Kline, Lakeland, Fla.; one stepson, Burdette Sheline, Goshen; 11 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and 15 greatgrandchildren. Services were held Saturday, May 14, in the Eastlund-Harris Funeral Home, Syracuse, with Rev. David Maish officiating. Burial was in the Solomon Creek Cemetery, near Benton. On July 5, 1925, she was married to Norman C. Peterson who died Jan. 7,1981. Survivors include two sons, John C. Peterson, Mishawaka, and Robert A. Peterson, San Antonio, Texas; one daughter, Mrs. J. Chester and Myrtle (Mills) Linville. In Ligonier, on Oct. 28,1961, he married Judy Zartman. Linville retired in 1979 from Vitreous, in Nappanee, after 17 years. Healthy heart cooking seminar Information on low salt, low saturated fat, and low cholesterol diets will be provided through a healthy heart cooking seminar which will be offered by Goshen Hospital on Saturday, May 21, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the hospital’s education department. The seminar is for individuals who are interested in lowering their fat, cholesterol, salt intake, for those who must follow these diets and for the persons who prepare these meals. There is a fee for the seminar which includes lunch and handouts. Preregistration is required by Thursday, May 19. Barbara Fierce, a Goshen Hospital dietician, will lead the discussion and prepare a meal using low salt, low fat, and low cholesterol recipes. She will be assisted by Dottie Kauffmann, RN, cardiac rehabilitation coordinator. The purposes of the cooking seminar are for the participants to understand and improve their low saturated fat, low cholesterol and/or low salt diets; to adopt a plan for losing weight or for achieving weight maintenance and a healthy heart diet; to acquire information concerning cooking creatively with the healthy heart diet; and to learn how to make appropriate food selections when grocery shopping or eating out.
