Warriors sprint past Bremen

SYRACUSE — Wawasee took nine of the 12 events and easily defeated Bremen, 68-50, in a Northern Lakes Conference girls’ track meet Thursday. Freshman Lisa Mikel carried the Warriors to the victory, winning three events. The Milford product won the long jump with a 14-3 leap, then added crowns in the 100 dash and 200 dash. In the 100, Mikel finished in 13.1 to win comfortably. Mikel’s 27.6 time in the 200 was hardly challenged. Krissy Eisenhour added three victories for the Warriors, including one in the 1,600 relay. The sophomore went 17.5 in the, 100 hurdles to slip past Steff Jamiel for the top spot. Eisenhour added a first place in the 300 hurdles, finishing in 49.8. Jamiel won the high jump, leaping 5-2, and Jennifer Titus was victorious in the 3,200 run (13:31.5). Amy Parr took the discus competition for Wawasee, winning with a 91-8 throw. Pilgrims rally, edge Wawasee, 4-3

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth rallied from a 3-0 deficit Friday to hand Wawasee its third straight Northern Lakes Conference loss, 4-3, in Plymouth. Dan O’Haver doubled home Matt Koble and Jay Koontz in the opening inning to give the Warriors the early lead. Chris Conkling capped Wawasee’s rally with an RBI single. Koble opened the inning with a line' single and Koontz followed with a walk. The Warriors, however, could not plate another run after Conkling’s single. Meanwhile, Plymouth pushed a single run across the plate in the first, then tied the game in the second. In the inning, Wawasee errors led to the Pilgrims’ tying runs — both unearned. In the seventh, Plymouth scored with two outs. Winning pitcher Brent Osswald opened the inning with a walk. After an errant pickoff attempt moved Osswald to second, the senior

Warriors edge Riley by stroke SYRACUSE — Wawasee opened its dual golf season Monday with a pair of victories at South Shore Golf Course. The Warriors shot a 156, one-stroke better than South Bend Riley’s 157. Fairfield finished at 171. Derek Smith took medalist honors for Wawasee with his even-par 35. Randy Cesco shot a 37 for Wawasee, while Doug Nigbor shot 41, Tim Keim, 43, and Doug Parmarlee, 49. Atwood's 36 leads golfers SYRACUSE — Darin Atwood shot a 36 Tuesday leading Wawasee to its third straight golf victory, 150-167, over Elkhart Central. The win raised the Warriors’ season mark to 3-0 entering Thursday’s match at Manchester. A balanced effort was key to the 17-stroke win. Dpug Nigbor was one off Atwood’s pace, shooting a 37, while Doug marlee carded a 38. Derek Smith completed play with a 39 and Randy Cesco shot a 43. Chris Fuller paced Central with a 40. In junior varsity action, Wawasee set a school record en route to an easy 153-175 victory over the Blue Blazers. Dave O’Neal led the Warriors with a 36, one shot better than Tim Keim’s 37. David Schmahl shot a 39, while Joel Reynolds finished at 41 and Mike Tuttle, 43. SYRACUSE — Plymouth handed Wawasee its second Northern Lakes Conference girls’ tennis loss Tuesday, 4-1, in Syracuse. The loss dropped the Warriors’ season record to 5-2, 1-2 in the conference. Wawasee’s lone varsity victory came in the second doubles comBrower leads Vincennes VINCENNES — Heidi Brower, a freshman at Vincennes University, averaged 179 pins over 12 games to lead the Trailblazers’ women’s bowling team to 10th place in the National Collegiate Bowling Championships, April 14-16, in Denver. The Blazers had a 10,392 series but failed to make the cut for the top six teams. Vincennes finished ahead of Buffalo State University (10,242) and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (9,651). West Texas State won the championship. Brower had the highest average on Vincennes’ team in the championships. The North Webster native rolled a 224 high game and 553 series in the NCBC .opening day. The Wawasee graduate finished her first season with the top overall average, 168.3 entering the post-season competition. Brower helped lead the Trailßlazers to a 38-18 record, third in the Indiana-Illinois Travel Conference. Brower’s high game this season was 245 and high series, 618. She is majoring in Bowling Lanes Management at Vincennes. JVs win SYRACUSE — Geoff Coburn collected three hits, including a home run, and Kevin Manning pitched a strong game to lead Wawasee over Warsaw, 8-5, Monday in a junior varsity contest. Coburn was the hitting star for* the Warriors with his three-hit game. The Warriors pounded out 12 hits against Warsaw pitching. Jeff Cowan added a roundtripper for Wawasee.
