Come alive!
J By MARIETTA FULLER - Guest Writer As spring begins, we see a change come over the earth as things become alive. The grass becomes greener; the lily of the valley, crocus, daffodils and tulips shoot forth from the warmed ground; and a blaze of color of the yellow forsythia, the red japonica or fire bush and the purple and white lilac sweep over the land, Trees begin to put on their green leaves and are not to be outdone by the beautiful colors of the redbud, pink and white dogwood, pink magnolia, etc. God’s creations seem to beckon to us to also come alive! We are dead in trespasses and sins “for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) and “the wages of LADIES’ SEMINAR SPEAKER — Virginia Allen will be the speaker at a ladies’ seminar on Saturday, April 9, from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. at Rock Church, located on old 13A (950E and 1050 N) northeast of Lake Wawasee. sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ, our Lord.” (Romans 6:23) When we believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God (Acts 8:37), we have everlasting life in heaven; but to have spiritual life on earth we must walk not after the flesh (sin), but after the Spirit. (Romans 8:2) “For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. When we live in sin, we are in a far country away from the fellowship of God. We, too, are a prodigal son like the one given in Luke 15, who stooped so low as to live with pigs when his substance was spent in riotous living. Or, if you like the title better, you can call it “backsliding.” Nevertheless, when we are children of God, we can come like the prodigal son did and say, “Heavenly Father, I have sinned” and ask forgiveness in the name of Jesus. To the elder son who was jealous over the joy and the feasting, these words were spoken, “We should be merry and glad, for this, thy brother, was dead and is alive again; and was lost and is found (Luke 15:32). This is a parable of a child of God who went astray. How can we live spiritually? “Man doth not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeded! out of the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4) “We know that we have passed from death unto life because we love the brethren. He> that loveth not his brother abideth in death.” (1 John 3:14) “Deal bountifully with thy servant that I may live and keep Thy word. (Psalm 119:17) “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” (Jas. 2:26) How can we keep alive spiritually? We must be filled with the Spirit of Jesus for He said in John 15:5; “Without Me, you can do nothing.” There are four steps in keeping alive: (1) confess sins; (2) ask to be filled with the Holy Spirit (Eph. 5:18) and to be greater filled; (3) sing songs or speak (or read) psalms (Eph. 5:19; and (4) thank God. (Eph. 5:20) Our desire should be not only to “come alive” but to stay “alive” spiritually every day that we live. Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it. — Helen Keller “.. .God was with him, And delivered him out of his afflictions." — Acts 7:9,10
