Dennis J. Mock Services were held Wednesday, March 2, at 11 a.m. in Calvary United Methodist Church, Syracuse, for Dennis J. Mock, 33, PO Box 515, Syracuse, who died Sunday, Feb. 28,1988, at 3 p.m. in Goshen Hospital following a brief illness. Surviving are his wife, Darcy; two sons, Christopher Joseph and Andrew Paul, at home; his parents, Lawrende and Betty Anderson; grandparents,'Mr. and Mrs. Roy (Cecelia) Mock, Syracuse; and one brother, David Mock, Indianapolis. was a member of the North Judson United Methodist Church, ladies aid group of the church, Rose Lodge 408 of the Rebekah’s, Odd Fellow’s Lodge of LaPorte and General Federation of Women’s Club. Additional survivors include one other daughter, Mrs. Edward (Ann) Schultz, Culver; four grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, March 5, at 2 p.m. (CST), in the O’Donnell Funeral Home, North Judson. Rev. Mark A. Ellcessor officiated and burial was in Highland Cemetery, North Judson. Don Huey Word has been received by Mrs. Kenneth (Kathryn) Knisley, Syracuse, of the death of her uncle, Don Huey, 84, Decatur Road, Fort Wayne. Huey died Sunday, March 6, 1988, at 8:50 p.m. in a Florida hospital where he had been a patient since December. Marion Acton, Milford, is a nephew. Booher, Leesburg BERTHA GILBERT BREAKS HER HIP Longtime Milford resident Bertha (Wehrly) Gilbert fell Thursday, March 3, breaking her hip. She underwent orthopedic surgery Friday noon, March 5, in Goshen Hospital. Mrs. Gilbert, who resides near Stroh with her daughter, Alice Click, was listening to her daughter practice the organ in their church for an upcoming Sunday service. As Mrs. Gilbert was getting up from the pew, she fell. She is a patient in Room 256 and will remain hospitalized for the remainder of this week. Francis Kleopfer, 91, was taken to Goshen Hospital. J.B. Roberts, 72, r 3 box 481, Syracuse, was taken to Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, Thursday, March 3, after the EMS was called to Dr. Jack Clark’s office at 10:20a.m. s The EMS was called to Wawasee High School at 12:45 p.m. Thursday. The EMS was called to the facility at 12:32 p.m. Minnie Shock, 92, Miller’s Merry Manor, Syracuse, was taken to Goshen Hospital Monday, March 7. The EMS was called at 10:59a.m. The EMS was called to the home of Leroy Mason, 71, r 3 box 174, Syracuse, at 6:09 p.m. Monday. He was taken to Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Gibson, 22, r 6, LaGrange, died at 10:10 p.m. Wednesday, March 2,1988, in the Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis. She was the stepsister of Peggy Allen and Jeannie Allen, both of Syracuse. She was born on January 24, 1966, in Goshen. She had graduated from West Noble High School, attended Glen Oaks Com-, munity College, Centreville, Mich., and in 1986 moved from Ligonier to LaGrange. Best Services were held at 10:30 a.m. this morning, Wednesday, in First Presbyterian Church, Nappanee, for Irene E. Best, 81, 706 North Elm St., Nappanee. She died Sunday morning, March 6, 1988, in St. Vincent’s Hospital, Indianapolis, of an apparent heart attack. She was the sister of Mrs. Theo (Naoma) Beer of Milford. Mrs. Best was born in Bluffton on January 29,1907, the daughter of Benjiman F. and Elise (Dubach) Speheger. On November 21, 1954, she married William W. Best in Nappanee. He survives. She was a graduate of Bluffton High School and Ball State University. For 16 years, she had been a school teacher in Nappanee, was a member of the Elkhart County, Indiana, and National Retired Teachers Associations, and First Presbyterian Church in Nappanee. Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Herb (Diane) Meyer Simon, Indianapolis; three grandchildren; two additional sisters, Mrs. Forrest (Marie) Ritzman, Rittman, Ohio,

Ethel McCoy Mrs. Ethel McCoy, 101, died at 9 p.m. Monday, March 7, 1988, in Miller’s Merry Manor. She was a former Oswego resident. Mrs. McCoy was born in Zion, Pa., on August 7, 1886, to William and Barbara Ellen (Clemens) Winter. She had been married Clifton McCoy. He preceded her in death in 1948. She was a homemaker and member of the Leesburg United Methodist Church. She moved to Oswego from Indianapolis many years ago. Surviving are one granddaughter, Mary Jane Lastufka, Anchorage, Ala. She was preceded in death by one son, Bill McCoy, and one sister.

Witmer Friends may call tomorrow, Thursday, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Eastlund-Harris Funeral Home, Syracuse, for Pearl L. Witmer, 94, 136 E. Boston St., Syracuse. She died last evening, Tuesday, at 6:30 p.m. in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Eli (Margaret “Babe”) Mast with whom she resided. Mrs. Witmer was born in Goshen on August 4, 1893, to Albert and Rosa (Martin) Ettline. In 1913, she married Vern Amsden. He preceded her in death. She later married Melvin Witmer who died in 1936. She was a homemaker. Additional survivors include one other daughter, Mrs. Al (Verna) Willit, Angola, Fla.; three sons, Edward “Monk” Amsden, Milford, Melvin “Squeak” Witmer, Milford, and Robert Witmer, Nappanee; 21 grandchildren; and 45 greatgrandchildren. One daughter and two brothers preceded her in death.

Huntington, Syracuse, died this morning, Wednesday, at 3 a.m. in her home. The daughter of Joel A. and Mary (Strohm) Schwartz, she was born in Craigville on March 2,1906. On December 8,1945, she married Vernon T. Beckman. He preceded her in death in 1980. Mrs. Beckman moved to Syracuse in 1945 from Fort Wayne. She owned and operated the Turkey Creek Furniture Shoppe from 1945 to 1978. She was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church, Syracuse,
Officer hospitalized — Man rescued from icy Lake Wawasee
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Officer Tom Brindle, 41, who was admitted to Kosciusko Community Hospital with chest pains following a water rescue Saturday, was released Monday. Officer Brindle, along with members of the Syracuse Fire Department responded to a call of a man through the ice on Lake Wawasee. The dispatcher at the Syracuse Fire Station received a call at 3:40 p.m. Saturday, March 5, of a person in the water at Pier 726 on Lake Wawasee. feet off shore. Brindle, along with the fire department used two boats to maneuver on the water and ice to rescue Bailes. Bailes reportedly had been ice boating when the mishap occurred. Syracuse Emergency Medical Service had also responded but Bailes refused treatment. Officer Brindle was on his way back to regular patrol following the rescue when he began having chest pains. He went to the North Webster Fire Station where he collapsed and was taken to KCH by the North Webster Emergency Medical Service. Exhaustion has been attributed to the chest pains.
