A MODEL COMPANY — Owner Bill Fisher has been in business at Fisher’s Lawn and Garden for 10 years, and already his company has become a model for other lawn and garden stores in the country. Fisher says his success has come from, “...just talking to people, offering good service, and providing customers with pickup and delivery.” Service manager Bill Hutchinson is on the left and Fisher is shown on the right.

Fisher's Lawn and Garden has reputation for service

It is not very often that a local business earns national recognition and awards, but Fisher’s Lawn and Garden - on SR 13 south in Syracuse — has done just that. In 1985 and 1986, the store was cited as being one of 10 fastest growing Simplicity dealers in the country. Because of its success, Fisher’s Lawn and Garden has been featured four times in the Simplicity magazine. And, late last year, the store was featured in a seminar at the regional Simplicity sales meetings in Fort Wayne. Owner Bill Fisher is proud of his store’s success, but he has not allowed the accolades to change his style of business. “When you come into Fisher’s Lawn and Garden,” Fisher said, “you will not encounter a sales-staff that tries to pressure you into buying something. We will show you the product, and then tell you the pluses and minuses of all of the features.” Fisher’s Lawn and Garden is authorized by both Simplicity and Toro as a certified dealer. Fisher’s has a full line of mechanized lawn tools in stock, such as: push and riding lawnmowers, various sizes of snowblowers and chainsaws, and many

types of accessories to meet all outdoor needs. Fisher’s also has one of the top service departments in the area. With Bill Hutchinson as manager, the service department’s reputation for excellence has grown enough that they now do all the repair work for several large retail stores in Goshen and Warsaw. Fisher’s also provides convenience to its customers by picking up and delivering any items needing to be serviced. Also found at Fisher’s is a nursery complete with tree shrubs, flowers, plants, and miscellaneous nursery items. “We also have a man,” Fisher said, “who locally builds bird feeders and houses for us to go with our bird seed.” Fisher, who opened his business in June, 1977, is joined at the shop by Hutchinson, salesman William P. Fisher, secretary Marsha Fisher, and one part-time employee. Fisher attributes his success to the friendly, low key atmosphere found at his store. “People are getting tired of places that do not provide good service. We have been able to build a good reputation by talking to people, providing good services, and by offering pickup and delivery to them.
