MANY APPLIANCES AT THERMOGAS CO — Dan Eames, service and delivery, and Connie Bachota, office manager, recently found time to check out some of the appliances in the Thermogas showroom at the intersection of US 6 and SR 15. They invite all to stop in to look around or to just say hello.
New Paris Thermogas offers more than LP gas service
When the Thermogas Company was built in 1948 at the intersection of US 6 and SR 15 south of New Paris, it was known as “DriGas.” At that time the LP gas industry was in its infancy. A major reasons for this location was available access to both a railroad and two major highways for shipping and receiving. Also, it was planned to have underground storage of LP gas, so a large tract of land was purchased. Initially, trucks delivered all LP gas in cylinders in a broad areas of Northern Indiana and Ohio and Southern Michigan. As usage of LP gas increased most users went to 500 gallon home storage tanks for their heating needs. In 1962, Dri-Gas was bought by Thermogas of Des Moines, lowa, a subsidiary of Mid-America Pipeline Company (MAPCO). Soon after that the decision was made to sell appliances at the local plant. This broad line now includes water heaters, microwaves, washers, dryers,' kitchen stoves, refrigerators, trash compacters, garbage disposals, gas grills and space heaters. In 1968, in order to better serve customer needs, the company installed its “Hopcaid” liquid fertilizer service. For this operation the company installed a batch plant and purchased fertilizer spreader trucks. Link Young, manager of the local Thermogas Company, with his long experience, is considered by many to be one of the most knowledgeable people in this area on liquid fertilizer and LP gas. Also on the company staff are Service Manager Louie Stump, a 40-year employee; Dan Eames, service and delivery; Larry Kaiser, bulk service driver; and Connie Bachota, bookkeeper. Thermogas presently serves over 1,000

bulk LP gas users and most area farmers. “We offer a full service package to our customers,” stated Connie. “This means we supply full service above and beyond the call of duty, including gas appliance service and repair. Our service men are very knowledgeable and concerned for our customers. We service emergency calls all hours, day or night.” Use of liquefied petroleum gas in agriculture and industry is on the upswing. New farm and industrial uses for LP gas are continually being found. LP gas is an excellent motor fuel and'is used by many large fleets of buses and trucks. Because it gives off a minimum of objectionable fumes and odors, it is proving valuable as a fuel for industrial tractors and lift trucks operating inside factories and warehouses. The company also installs central heating and air conditioning systems as well as space heaters. A special service is available to assist area farmers. This is the “AgriTech” computer analysis system, which is used to analyze farmers’ data from previous years to develop recommendations for future use of land and fertilizers. Thermogas is a member of New Paris Chamber of Commerce and has donated to the New Paris Little League softball program for several years. Its annual “Farmers* Meeting” will be held at the end of February and for its “Open House” in late summer or early fall, a hog roast is being planned. The staff at Thermogas invites all to stop in between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on any weekday or from 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturday to check its wide selection of appliances or just say hello and get acquainted.
