Augsburgers meets the needs of the community

Expansion and modernization seem constantly in progress at Augsburger’s Super Valu supermarkets. A year ago it was in Syracuse, this year North Webster’s grocery story will expand. The 1988 project will add 12,000 square feet to the present facility at a $1.2 million dollar figure. The project is expected to be completed in mid-November. North Webster’s facility is located off SR 13, across the street from the International / Palace of Sports. Syracuse’s supermarket is ''-off-SR 13 on the south side of Syracuse. Mike Myers manages North Webster’s store, while Ron Schwartz is the manager in Syracuse. Remodeling plans are nothing new to North Webster residents. The store was remodeled in 1983 as John Augsburger, owner of the supermarket chain, attempted to meet the needs of the community. This year’s remodeling program is no different. An expanded produce, meat, frozen food dairy and deli/bakery will provide customers with the best food selection in the area. In fact, the type of facility planned will be similar to those found in larger, metropolitan cities. The State Bank of Syracuse will also have a branch office located inside the supermarket. “This facility will probably be one of the

most complete facilities in the area,” admitted Augsburger’s general manager, Jim Evans. “Not many towns the size of North Webster have supermarkets like the one we are planning. It should be a store they’ll really enjoy.” What prompted the addition is support given Augsburger’s from the local residents. Also, summer residents provide additional income, making this project feasible for the grocery store owner. Although Evans plans on expanding each department in the store, he does not plan on changing the store’s service policy. At Augsburger’s service comes first. It is because of that policy that all Augsburger stores remain open 24 hours. “People are into convenience,” said Evans. “And we want to be convenient for them. We feel we have a lot to offer each community and are working hard at giving them what they want and deserve. ” Evans added, “We’ve been very pleased with the response from the public to the 24-hour convenience service. It has been very successful and will continue if people continue to use the opportunity.” . Augsburger’s started in 1936 by the present owner’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. John F. Augsburger in Milford. The Syracuse facility opened in 1965 and the company expanded in North Webster six years later. The Milford store was sold in 1978.
