Miller’s Merry Manor, Inc., located at Pickwick Drive and Harkless Road, became a part of the Syracuse community on June 5, 1987, its opening day. This facility is a part of the family-owned Miller’s Merry Manor, Inc. This organization began in 1964 when Connie Miller, RN, and the late Wallace T. Miller, Sr., purchased the Kosciusko County Home on County Farm Road. Since that time Miller’s Merry Manor, Inc., has expanded throughout Indiana with Syracuse being the 31st facility. The organization continues to be owned by Connie Miller and her children, Wallace T. Miller, Jr., LaGrange; Sen. Richard V. Miller, Plymouth; R. James Miller, Warsaw; Beverly Stevens, Warsaw; and Barbara Miller, Syracuse. This facility is located near the channel between Lake Wawasee and Syracuse Lake. The design of the building is a pod construction. Three pod areas are available for resident rooms with a living room area in the center of each pod. Each pod can accommodate 22 residents. The facility has six private rooms, 30 semi-private rooms and offers skilled and intermediate care for . residents. Each resident room has individually controlled heating and air conditioning units, lovely room furnishings, individual closets, a private bathroom, and the facility is carpeted throughout. Each resident is provided with his or her own window, which is a unique feature of the pod design. The facility has a Lakeshore pod that is intermediate care. This area offers the ultimate in nursing facility living. Many extra amenities are available, such as a newspaper, guest meals, happy hour, beauty and barber services, plush room fur-

nishings, and more. The facility welcomes residents to stay on a short term basis, also. Families are welcome to let their loved ones stay at the manor while they are away at work, on vacation, or recovering from an illness. The facility also has 24-hour open visiting hours, a physical therapist, activities provided seven days a week, three delicious meals per day, laundry and housekeeping services and 24-hour licensed nursing care. Administrator of the Syracuse facility is Judy A. Warner, who has been employed by Miller’s Merry Manor, Inc., for IVz years of her 11% years of nursing home experience. A graduate of Whitko High School and Manchester College, she resides in Goshen. Lillian Carty, RN, director of nursing, began working for the manor in June 1987. A graduate of St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Danville, 111., she has been a registered nurse for 26 years and also served as an Army nurse in Vietnam. She and her husband, Jack, live at r 3, Syracuse, and have seven children and five grandchildren. The food service supervisor is Julietta Ocealis, who joined the manor staff in October 1987. A graduate of Indiana State University and Indiana Vocational Technical College, she has worked in nursing homes for three years. She and her husband, Andy, and their two daughters reside in Goshen. Laura Hinen, activities director/social service designee, has worked in nursing homes for 10 years. She is a graduate of Columbia City Joint High School and Manchester College. She has been working at the manor since June 1987 and is presently . residing in Columbia City.
Karen Weyler, bookkeeper/receptionist, began working at the manor in September 1987. Originally from Syracuse, N.Y., she and her husband, Scott, recently moved to r 1, North Webster, after both were discharged from the Marines in Hawaii. The manor’s environmental supervisor is Dolly Simon. She has been supervisor of
