Service: Key to success at Milford Motors, Inc.
In Oct. 1971, Dick Casto opened up a small one-man business in Milford. Now in 1988, Milford Motors, Inc., has become a two store operation with 17 employees. Casto says his business has become successful because of one reason: service. “Service after the sale of an automobile and a small-town atmosphere have helped make Milford Motors Kosciusko County’s largest used car dealer,” says Casto. “We do not give you razzle-dazzle when you come to our store. If you have a need or problem, it’s not your problem anymore. Automatically it’s our problem. We’re going to take care of it one way or the other, but we’re going to make you happy if at all possible.” Some of the perks which Milford Motors offer are: a free loaner car if your car is serviced within 30 days after purchase; a full service department; a body shop; a sales staff which is always ready to handle individual needs; and after 17 years of business, the capability to usually locate any late model, low-mileage demo or executive driven car, if not already in stock. With the benefits that Milford Motors

Superiority is often achieved by keeping a bit of the old and adding just the right touch of the new, which is what Liberti’s Syracuse Shoe Hospital specializes in. “We use old world knowledge combining it with new high technology machines,” explained Mike Liberti, spokesman for the business. 1 * Liberti is following a family tradition in the shop, having spent 30 years of his 38-year life, working on shoe repair. He worked at his father’s shop as a youngster and started his own shoe repair business in 1978. In 1981, he and his wife, Pat, relocated in Arizona and opened another shop. It was during this time that Mike was injured and Pat became extremely involved in the business. “She used to help me with the business,” said Mike, “but now she handles the actual shoe repairing herself, and I just try to help her.” The shop specializes in repairing any type of shoes, luggage and leather items.
WHS: Backing beliefs with action
Wawasee High School is committed to excellence. Its growth and expansion of new curriculum is evidence of the high school’s commitment. The biggest change in curriculum will occur next school year in the industrial technology department. The new program joins a more intense directive of educational emphasis at Wawasee. > Other ways Wawasee has intensified its educational system is through its gifted and talented program and last year’s addition of the academic hall of fame. “We’ve always been concerned and committed to academics,” said Wawasee High School principal Ned Speicher. “Now we are backing our beliefs with actions. ” Presently, nearly 10 percent of Wawasee students are involved in the gifted and talented program. The program started when the present juniors were fourth graders. Additional statistics show that nearly 70 percent of Wawasee’s students attend college after graduation. The new programs
customers receive, Casto says buying a used car makes more sense than buying a new car. “We offer a 30-day protection plan on all of our cars, and extended plans are available.” Thus, people are able to purchase a late model used car with an extended protection plan, and still pay several thousand dollars less than they would for a new car. Casto added, “Many of our 1986 and 1987 cars still have the balance of the factory warranty left. These are excellent vehicles on which we can offer very good prices.” , In addition to great prices, Milford Motors has a large selection of cars to choose from. In May, 1987, Casto opened up his second dealership, Nappanee Motors, located on US 6 on the east edge of Nappanee. Between the two stores, there are over 100 cars to choose from. More than 1,100 vehicles were sold by Milford Motors in 1987, which proves that their commitment to service is working. “We take care of people,” Casto said. “We z try to get people the best value car for their dollar.”
Garments, such as iong winter coats needing repairs that can’t be done at the dry cleaners, can generally be done by Liberti’s. “Often women will bring in shoes having just the metal part of the heel remaining, or plastic heels half gone,” Mike said, “and we rebuild them. So when they pick them up, they simply can’t believe it’s the same pair of shoes because they’ve changed so much.” The new Liberti shop is located at 207 W. Main Street in Syracuse. It opened in August of 1987 and is “one of the most updated shops in the area,” said Mike. He concluded with, “We appreciate all our old customers who have come back to see us, and also appreciate our new ones.” Whatever one’s shoe, boot, or leather item needs are, Liberti’s is there to assist, and chances are they’ll know just the right technique to make it better than new. Like all hospitals, Liberti’s offers emergency service. Also, if shoes are in by 9 a.m., Liberti’s can provide same day service and have them out by 5 p.m., in most cases.
will enhance Wawasee students before college enrollment. The changes in the industrial technology department deal with a curriculum featuring a wide variety of courses. Until the change, students were limited in their courses, selecting from a constructionbased curriculum. The new courses cover four clusters of industrial technology — communication, construction. manufacturing and transportation. Each subject cluster begins with an introductory course and progresses into research and development. “I think this could be a great addition to our school,” said Jim Alford, Wawasee’s industrial technology department chairman. “It will bring our program up to date, benefitting more students. I’m enthused.” The format of the classes compare, in principle, with Junior Achievement. The main difference, however, is the new courses are built around manufacturing products.
