National Prodbcts Inc. is a . specialized wood cutting firm

Under current management, many changes have been made totmake National Products one of the leaders in the distribution of lumber and plywood products. The company specializes in the distribution of an extensive line .of treated and untreated plywoods and lumber. Prefinished paneling and raw lauan, much of which are imported from the South Pacific, are other items of distribution for National Products. National Products has been able to diversify its product line as the clientele, which consists primarily of manufacturers of boats, mobile homes, recreational vehicles, and van conversion specialists. New industries that National Products is servicing are farm implement and orthopedic manufacturers. The firm has an aggressive sales force and innovative approach to meeting the needs of small and large companies alike. JA Business Service is a service operation
JA Business Service opened its doors for business in February, 1985, on the second floor at Pickwick Corners in Syracuse. Owner Judy A. Wallace has since moved to a location even more convenient for her customers, into larger quarters on the ground floor at 101 Pickwick Comers. “Our business has grown rapidly during the past two years as our customer base has grown in the Syracuse area and we have more things to sell.” Judy commented. “Our new ground floor location has also helped." One of Judy’s mottos is “We Sell and Teach Computers.” This is certainly true, but the services offered go far beyond those few words. JA Business Service offers consultation and complete secretarial services. A service which customers, both individuals and companies, are very pleased with is the efficient and courteous telephone answering service. Judy has also added multi-user systems to her repertoire. Use of the company’s service of typing letters and reports has increased rapidly. Also, many clubs and business rely on JA Business Service to update and maintain their mailing lists. Judy said the copier service at the new more accessible location has alsotbeen well-received. The customer can either run his own copies or have an employee help with the process. Judy is a very busy lady because customers quickly learned that she knows her business. She graduated from West Noble High School, took a computer course, bought an Atari computer and began learning word processing. She worked exclusively in printing operations and learned all about design and layout of forms and computerized typesetting. Judy’s business card says, “Have Computer — Will Travel” and she stands behind this motto. When she sells a computer, she

counts with equal enthusiasm. Service is prompt and courteous, a standard unequaled in the industry. The custom cutting of wood products is another facet of National’s business that has experienced rapid growth during the past few years. National Products has many specialized saws and equipment which enables the company to meet each individual requirement. Gang Rip Saws, Dado Saws, and Panel Saws, to name a few, are what makes the business the only specialized woodcutting and distribution company in Northern Indiana, and because of the high quality equipment, National Products has been able to diversify into the wood parts market. The raw materials are shipped to National Products via the railroad, where they are processed to specific dimensions and then delivered by truck. Hard work and great service have been the roots behind the success which National Products has enjoyed. The bottom line is service! If a manufacturer needs wood but can’t get it, valuable production time is lost. National Products has built its reputation around the fact that it does not leave its clients empty-handed. In most cases the company can deliver its products within hours. An example of proof to the company’s success is in its employee needs: over the past two years the number of people employed by National Products has more than doubled, while sales have grown by 240 percent. If a business or industry uses wood of any size, shape, or it might be to its advantage to contact the personnel at National Products and take advantage of their experience and expertise.
continues to be available to serve the needs of the customer. “The primary functions small businesses want are accounting systems including accounts payable, accounts receivable and inventory,” she said. “Once these are working for them, they generally want to add word processing for letter writing and possibly some graphing or computer design capabilities. A small business needs good, honest consulting to help get the best use of its computer system.” In addition to working with customers individually, Judy will be teaching evening classes in word processing and basic computing at Wawasee High School this spring and fall. Helping Judy with sales is her sister, Jeri DeLaCruz. Her mother, Carol Wallace, and Beth Werker work in the office to assist customers and give Judy and Jeri information as they frequently check in by phone. Judy explained, “I want to emphasize that we do have the IBM line and IBM compatible equipment and software. Most of the computers we sell are expandable to hard disk drives. This means as the need grows, the computer system can grow too.” Available at JA Business Service are diskettes, ribbons, paper, cleaning kits, software programs, and other office supplies. Software and hardware to choose from include printers, spreadsheets, word processors, data bases, farm programs, church programs, and accounting programs. Software is available for IBM' Apple, Commodore and Atari computers. JA Business Service is now open for customer convenience from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, as well as from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. “Give us a call, suggests Judy, “I’ll bet we can help with your computer needs.”
