Katherine Ratliff Katherine L. Ratliff, 66, 709 Westplains Drive, Goshen, died at 11:20 a.m. Friday, Dec. 25, 1987, in Goshen Hospital, following complications. She had been a patient there since December 19. She was the sister of Charles Disher, Syracuse. Mrs. Ratliff was born on November 21, 1921. On June 15, 1947, in Syracuse, she married Robert L. Ratliff, who passed away on May 16,1972. A lifetime resident of the Goshen/Syracuse area, she was a retired Johnson Controls employee. • Her survivors include one son, Ronald Ratliff, US Navy; two grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Robert (Shirley) Cripe, Goshen, Mrs. George (Cecilia) Hoss, Elkhart, and Mrs. Clancy (Velma) Yoder, Huntington Beach, Calif.; and one other brother, Robert D. Disher, Yuma, Ariz. A private family memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 27, in Blocker-Harris Fifth Street Chapel, Goshen. Rev. Harold North, pastor of Solomon Creek United Methodist Church, officiated. The body was cremated with burial to be held at a later date in Violett Cemetery. Hansel 0. Reese A summer resident of Lake Webster, North Webster, Hansel O. Reese, 67, r 1, Bryant, died early Thursday morning, Dec. 24, 1987, in Hines Veterans Administration Medial Center, Hines, 111. He was born on August 24,1920, in Gas City. On August 5,1967, he was married to Edna Cline ; she survives. Lingofelter, 68, 2402 Bashor Road, Goshen, brother of Ruth Gillis, Dewart Lake, died at 1:29 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 1987, in the emergency room at Goshen Hospital. The cause of death was due to an apparent heart attack. Bom May 10, 1919, in Milford, he was the son of Melvin and Cleo (Gunderman) Lingofelter. On September 16, 1939, he married Ruby Wogoman; she survives. An area resident most of his lifetime, he was retired from the former Chase Bag Co. following 42 years of employment. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Surviving in addition to his wife and sister are one daughter, Mrs. John (Judy) Pease, Dunlap; one son, Kenneth Lingofelter, Bristol; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Charles Lingofelter, Nappanee, and Clifford Lingofelter, Warsaw. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Wednesday, Dec. 30, in the Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. Services will be held at 10 a m. Thursday, Dec. 31, in the funeral home with Rev. Hockmeyer Funeral Home, Harlen, was in charge of arrangements. Irvin J. Cooper Irvin J. Cooper, 80, Indianapolis, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1987, in St. Vincent’s Hospital, Indianapolis. Mr. Cooper was a summer resident for many years of Lake Wawasee and was one of the first owners of Bay Point Phase I Condominiums at Lake Wawasee. After 45 years as owner and board chairman of Cooper Industries, Inc., he retired in 1985. His survivors include one son, Bernard K. Cooper and one daughter, Mary Ellen Riddle. Services were held at 9:30 a m. this morning, Wednesday, Dec. 30, in the Leppert & Copeland Mortuary, Indianapolis, followed then by services at 10 a m. in Saint Pius X Catholic Church.

He weighed seven pounds, seven ounces and measured 19 inches long. Wesley Thomas has two half sisters, Bobby Joe and Merne Wright. Maternal grandparents are Elender McGinnis, Syracuse, and the late Thomas McGinnis. Paternal grandparents are the late Ulysses and Eunice Wright of Milford. Maternal greatgrandparents are Robert Sopher, North Webster, and the late Dorothy Sopher. Mary Roecker Mary Roecker, 84, Restmor Nursing Home, Morton, 111., mother of Mrs. Philip D. (Mildred) Beer, Milford, died at 6:30 a.m. yesterday morning, Tuesday, Dec. 29,1987, in the nursing home. She had been a resident there for four years. Bom May 20, 1903, in Morton, she was the daughter of Gottlieb and Anna (Zimmerman) Aupperle. She was married to August Roecker, who passed aWay in 1950. Mrs. Roecker was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Morton and was a homemaker. Survivors in addition to her daughter are two other daughters, Mrs. Ben (Ruthanne) Hodel, Roanoke, 111., and Mrs. Dorothy Martin, Morton; six sons, Glen Roecker, Robert Roecker, James Roecker and Frederick Roecker, all of Morton, Sam Roecker, Creve Coeur, 111., and Gary Roecker, East Peoria, Ill.; 44 grandchildren; and 45 great-grandchildren. One son, Ralph, three sisters and two brothers preceded her in death. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 1, in the Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home (former Perry Memorial Funeral Home), Morton. On Saturday, Jan. 2, the body will lie in state in the Morton Apostolic Christian Church one hour prior to the services at 10 a.m. The ministers of the church will be officiating, and burial will be in the Church Cemetery, Morton. Memorials may be given to the Morton Apostolic Christian Church or the Restmor Nursing Home. William D. Born February 20, 1899, in Washington Court House, Ohio, he was the son of Douglass and Ida (Graves) Crone. On September 24, 1923, he was married to Leona G. Bostwick, who passed away in 1979. Having moved from South Bend to Syracuse in 1956, Mr. Crone was retired from the Bendix Corp., South Bend, and the Wawasee Boat Co. Survivors include his two daughters, Jean Brown, Syracuse, and Gladys Los, South Bend; two sons, William R. Crone, South Bend, and Richard R. Crone, Covina, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; and 15 greatgrandchildren. Born October 19,1915, in Shiloh, Ark., she was the daughter of James and Kizzie (Bittie) Spence. On September 18,1939, in Heber Springs, Ark., she married James A. Blair, who passed away on April 6,1972. A resident of Mentone since 1963, Mrs. Blair attended the Free Will Baptist Church in Packerton. Her survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Monroe (Ethel) Prater, Warsaw; two sons, James R. Blair. Rochester, and Carroll D. Blair, Bourbon; six grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren. One brother and one sister preceded her in death. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, Dec. 30, in King Memorial Home, Mentone. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, in the funeral home with Pastor Chad Burkhart of the Free Will Baptist Church officiating. BL DRIVER ESCAPES INJURY — Dean L. Cross, 24,58625 SR 15, Goshen, escaped injury when his 1984 White semi-tractor and trailer flipped on SR 13 at 8:50 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23. The accident occurred near the Rowing well, south of North Webster. Kosciusko County Patrolman Jeff Bronsing was told by Cross he was traveling north on SR 13, following another truck. While he was talking to the other driver on the CB, the tractor went off the edge of the road. Upon trying to regain control, the truck flipped over and skidded to a stop in the middle of SR 13. He was hauling a full load of number two gravel. Damage to the tractor, owned by Cross, and the trailer, owned by V A S, Inc., Goshen, was listed up to 3100,000. Cromwell man killed, couple injured
A Cromwell man was killed and a Syracuse couple injured on Thursday, Dec. 24, at 6:30 p.m. south of Goshen. Richard E. DeMotte, 76, 243 Jefferson St., Cromwell, was driving a 1988 Oldsmobile east on CR 40 when he disregarded a stop sign at US 33. A 1978 Dodge, driven by Todd F. Perry, 35, r 2, Syracuse, had no chance to avoid the collision. He struck DeMotte’s auto on the driver’s side. DeMotte was taken to Goshen Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 9:35 p.m. by Elkhart County Coroner Carl Yoder. Death was due to multiple head and chest injuries. He was not wearing a seatbeat. Perry received broken teeth and bruises to his left leg. A passenger in his auto, Peggy Perry, 35, r 2 Syracuse, received minor injuries to the head and right hand. Both were wearing seatbelts. Investigating officers were Elkhart County Sheriff’s Ptl. Fred Mock and Ronald L. Robinson. DeMotte Services Richard E. DeMotte, 76, Cromwell, was bom in Kokomo on March 31,1911. He had lived in

the Cromwell area for 45 years. On January 13,1943, in Cromwell, he married Mary E. Kline. She survives. DeMotte had retired in 1978 from the Indiana Toll Road Commission as a fare collector.
