10 YEARS AGO, DEC. 7,1977 Mr. and Mrs. Steven Vanlaningham of r 1 Milford are the parents of their first child, a daughter Heather Marie, bom November 29, at 6:04 p.m. in the Goshen Hospital. Heather weighed six pounds, 11 ounces and was 20 inches long. If the weather is permitting, the Senior Citizens of Milford, will have their Christmas dinner and pnpgram, Sunday, Dec. 11, at 1 p.m. in the Milford Fire Station. Gary Gerencser, 13, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gerencser, r 1 Milford, has been designated as a most improved player at Parmore Golf Course, New Paris, said pro Scot Schuster. Gerencser will be listed in the January issue of Golf Digest as a most improved player, in a program sponsored by Golf Digest and Occidental Life. 29 YEARS AGO. DEC. 8, 1987 Members of the Milford town board voted Monday night to raise the salary of trustee from. SIOO per year to S2OO and the salary of the clerk-treasurer from S4OO to SSOO per year. The new salary will not become effective until it is put in the 1969 budget by the incoming board members. A dinner held in honor of the birthdays of Stanley Scott of r 3 Syracuse and his grandson, Troy Whetten of Logansport, was given by Mrs. Scott Sunday, Dec. 3, which was the birthday of Mr. Scott. Tfoy’s birthday was December 6. Paul Kizer received word this morning that he has been named postmaster at Milford. The confirmation comes from the United States Senate. Kizer has been serving as postmaster since the retirement of Eugene Felkner. „ Dr. Hugh Snyder was at Milford high school on Monday of this week to give dental exams to the juniors and the eighth grade students. The National Honor Society at Milford high school is the Noble Chapter, named to honor Dr. Noble W. Neff, who contributed much to education in Milford. Robert K. Kitson is the organization’s sponsor. Rex Slusher and Steven Jones, acting captains for the Pierceton Cubs and Milford Trojans, respectively, are pictured as they shook hands before the ball went up to begin the Pierceton-Milford game at Milford last Wednesday night. Farley has issued an order permitting mail carriers during the winter season, to scatter grain and seeds for birds when the ground is covered with snow. Mesdames H. C. Snyder and C. D. Barries attended a concert given at the Goshen high school auditorium Tuesday evening by the Rink string quartette. z The Good Fellowship Club will meet at Hotel Milford Tuesday . evening for their last meeting of the year. Ezra Graham will address the club on the subject of “Organization of Boy Scouts,’’ and all interested persons are invited to attend.
Two burglaries at Syracuse taverns Syracuse Police are investigating two burglaries in which $750 in cash and checks were stolen. The burglaries occurred early Monday morning, Dec. 7, at Louie's Bar and Grill and The Frog Tavern. Police were notified at 6:57 a.m. Monday by Rita Burket that Louie’s Bar and Grill had been burglarized. The thief or thieves had entered the building by breaking a window between 12:30 and 6:57 a.m. that morning. Taken was 3150 in change from the vandalized pool table and dart machine. Employees at The Frog Tavern notified police at 8:46 a.m. of a break-in there. Entry was gained by prying open a door. Taken was S6OO in cash and checks. The break-in occurred between 11:45 p.m. Sunday. Dec. 6, and 8:46 a.m. Monday. . Lazy giving The heart-warming gift is a carefully chosen one.
