Equal access for Cromwell I ; .'United Telephone officials have announced that customers in Cromwell will be receiving equal access in 1988. Although the actual conversion date is not scheduled until April 16, 1988, customers in Cromwell will begin to receive their first ballots in January. Equal access allows customers to have a choice in long-distance service. After the conversion date, when they place a long-distance call from their homes by dialing ‘l’, then the rest of the number, they will have their long-distance service provided by the company of their choice. Customers will be notified as to the carriers who will be offering service in Cromwell after the carrier notification deadline of Decembers. Although United Telephone officials, by law, cannot show a preference for a particular company nor recommend a company to a customer, a free program giving information about the equal access process is available through U.T.’s Speakers Bureau. To schedule a program for club or civic group customers may call toll free 1,800,552-2557. Further information will be provided as the date for the first ballot approaches.
