EARLY CHRISTMAS — It was an early Christmas present for Jo Butler, Syracuse, when her name was drawn in a no purchase necessary drawing for SSOO in free Hallmark merchandise at Thornburg Drug’s, Syracuse, on Monday. Tim Kroh, manager, commented over 340 names were submitted in the drawing at the Syracuse store, with other drawings being held in each of the Thornburg Drug’s stores. Kroh was delighted to deliver the sleigh full of prizes to Mrs. Butler Monday afternoon and enjoyed seeing what was inside as much as Mrs. Butler. Among the items in the sleigh were wrapping paper, picture frames, ornaments, earrings, plates, napkin rings, napkins, cups, coffee mugs, photo albums, a photo box, Christmas cards, all occasion cards, glasses, candles, jig-saw puzzles, stationary, bows, table clothes and a Teddy bear. Syracuse sees first snowfall

Residents of the Lakeland area have'always said they live in a unique area. Maybe last Friday wasn’t what they meant, but it proved this area is unique and what the difference of a few miles can make. Many residents woke up Friday morning to a light cover of snow on the ground with forecasters calling for one to three inches accumulation that day and evening. In fact the snow cover that morning was enough to cause a number of traffic accidents in the area, all resulting in minor in-

Several people stated heavy flurries were seen covering the ground, but the snow disappeared as quickly as it came. Proceeds from the walk will go towards civic projects in the community. 400 questionnaires returned at Syracuse A one-session sibling class for expectant parents and their children is offered by the Lutheran Hospitals Parent Education Department. The next classes are scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 8, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 19,10 to 11:30 a m. They will be held on the fourth floor of the Moellering Unit. This special seSsion ft geared for children ages three to ten years old, accompanied by one or both parents. It is designed to familiarize children with the hospital and prepare them for mom’s temporary absence. Included in the class is a tour of the post-partum area, a movie about a child’s experiences with the birth of a sibling and instruction on holding and diapering babies by using a doll. Each child should take a doll or stuffed animal. Pre-registration is required and early enrollment is advised. To register or receive more information, call the parent education office at 458-2276. Hiler to announce plans Congressman John Hiler, Representative from Indiana’s third district, has stated that he will publicly announce his political goals at a press conference in his home town of Walkerton at 9:30 a.m. EST on Tuesday, Dec. 1. Linda Heacox of Hiler’s Washington, D C., staff said the announcement will be made at St. Patrick’s School, 801 Tyler Street, a school the Congressman attended as a child.

A one-car accident near the intersection of CR 300E and Bowser Road at 8:01 p.m. last night (Tuesday) caused considerable damage to a jeep, while the driver escaped with minor bruises.

A fund raiser was started this fall and additional drives will be held this coming spring and summer to help with the purchase of additional decorations to be added in 1988. The decorations were put up just in time to help the merchants of Syracuse open the Christmas Shopping Season this coming weekend. day, Nov. 24, and taken to the 1 Kosciusko County Jail. Jessop , and Worrell have been charged with burglary and theft.

A jeep driven by Jeff Glon, 23, Syracuse, reportedly rolled over after leaving the pavement. Glon was checked by Syracuse Emergency Medical Service personnel but was not transported to a hospital. Further information was unavailable at press time.

Both were arrested in Syracuse following a break-in and theft at Village Butcher Shop, Pickwick Road, Syracuse, early Tuesday morning. Taken was approximately 300 pounds of meat. The meat has been recovered. The arrest was through the cooperation of the Syracuse Police Department, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and Indiana State Police. No bond has been set as of this morning (Wednesday).

> Two chimney fires ; at Syracuse > Syracuse Fire Department was : called to two chimney fires dur- ’ ing the past week. Firemen were called to the Bud Slabaugh home at 22 North Shore Drive., Syracuse, at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20. There was no damage and fire officials reported the cause as being the fire place advising the homeowner to have the chimney cleaned. The second chimney fire was on Tuesday morning, Nov. 24, at 1:28. Firemen were called to the home of Rex Sheeley, at South County Line Road and SR 13. No damage was estimated to the home owned by Bill Xanders, r 1, Syracuse. Firemen report me fire was caused when creosote in the wood burner stove pipe caught fire. Chimfex was used to extinguish the fire.
