PARTNERS IN EDUCATION SESSION — The Partners in Education Program held a strategic planning session at the Center Lake Pavilion recently for the five school communities of Tippecanoe Valley, Triton, Warsaw, Wawasee and Whitko. The meeting was facilitated by Dr. Bonnie Maitlen, a nationally recognized speaker on employability needs. School personnel, parents, students, and area business people met to discuss several topics concerning students and the future work force in Indiana. Each school community worked in small groups to identify how an effective partnership would enhance the student for the future. The schools and businesses discussed needs, resources and limitations of a partnership. Each group then discussed employability skills that are important for students to learn through school curriculum. Brainstorming continued throughout the session on partnership possibilities The day ended by planning short term goals for school/business partnerships and by addressing curriculum design for a long range goal to meet current employability needs of business and industry. Shown are Peg Fogarty, manager, Partners in Progress, Elkhart, Middlebury, Bristol, and Dunlap; Mary Jo Herrin, manager. Partners in Education, Kosciusko County; and Dr. Marge Dwyer, director, Indiana Partners in Education Program who attended the fourth national symposium on Partners in Education in Washington, DC

Teach a child about peace If a parent wishes a child to think of ways he can help others — to learn to always love instead of hate, don’t buy him war toys — especially at Christmastime when the topic of making a more peaceful world is discussed. Children can just as easily be taught caring ways instead of violence.
