Convuluted foam pads

| By MARIETTA HENRY The convoluted foam pad is available in many bedding departments. The pads have been used successfully in hospitals for added patient comfort. The configuration of the pad is of undulating cone shaped surfaces. The pad is usually made of polyurethane foam and usually lasts for to 2 years. In selecting a quality product look for the foam density; the amount one cubic foot of foam would weigh. Most pads are between 1.1 and 1.6 pounds per cubic foot. High density means longer lasting and firmer foam. Besides density, consider the indentation load deflection („ILD) that defines the foams resiliency. ILD is the weight it would take to compress foam one inch under pressure. However, three foams of equal density could have different ILD’s and resiliencies. The higher the ILD, the springier and firmer the foam. An average ILD of 30-35 pounds is best. The height and size of the foam pad must be considered. It should be about two inches high overall. If the pad is the same dimensions as the mattress and because of
