Soap scum
By MARIETTA HENRY Soap scum forms and clings to surface whenever soap is used in hard water. And though synthetic detergents are now used almost exclusively in laundering and dishwashing, soap is commonly used in bathrooms. But because of the surface of plastic plumbing, fixtures can be damaged by abrasives, new products have been developed to clean these surfaces. diaminetetraacetate). This compound, in solution, sequesters calcium ions and dissolves soap curd. Soap curd and the dirt that it holds can then be easily wiped away with no damage to the surface. Non-precipitating water softeners clean bathroom surfaces in the same way be sequestering hardness ions and dissolving soap curd. To use these products in the tub and lavatory, dissolve the water softener in a small amount of water and then use a sponge or a cloth wet with the. solution to wash the surfaces. To clean shower doors and walls, sprinkle the water softener on a wet cloth or sponge and then rub the surfaces. Be sure that the cloth or sponge is wet enough to provide water to dissolve the water softener and the soap curd. Rinse the surface well to remove both the dissolved soap curd and the water softener. Cleaning bathroom surfaces can be easy if the soap and dirt are dissolved and washed away rather than abraded off from the surface. And less damage will be done to the surface by this method.
