Jonas V. Yoder Services were held Friday/ Nov. 6, in Ammon .Hochstetlei*. residence near Nappanee for " Jonas V. Yoder, 84, r 1 box 100, Etna Green. He died in his home Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1987, at 6:30 p.m. Yoder was born on October 24, 1903, in Newton County, the son of Valentine and Sarah (Troyer) „ Yoder. On December 9, 1926, he married Nancy Slabaugh in Milford. She preceded him in i death on October 11,1986. A resident of the Nappanee- I Bourbon area all his life, he was a member of the Old Order Amish Church and a farmer. Surviving are four sons, Edwin ' J. and Ivan Y. Yoder, both of Etna Green, Melvin J. Yoder, Nappanee, and Elmer J. Yoder, New Paris; four daughters, Mrs. Edwin (Edna) Helmuth, Bremen, Mrs. Levi S. (Mary) Chupp, Etna Green, Mrs. Walter D. (Martha) Miller and Mrs. Lamar L. (Elizabeth) Hochstetler, both of Nappanee; 49 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 34 greatgrandchildren; five stepgreatgrandchildren; one brother, Ivan Yoder, Nappanee; and four sisters, Mrs. Fannie Stull, Mrs. Edna Miller and Mrs. Erwin (Iva) Burkholder, all of Nappanee, and Mrs. Alma Miller, Milford. He was preceded in death by four brothers. Viewing was in the Jonas J. Yoder residence. Bishop Walter Schwartz, Wayne Helmuth, and William Chupp conducted the services. Summe c Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, in Foster & Good Funeral Home, Akron, for Mrs. Zelma Marie Summe, 85, Canterbury Nursing Home, Rochester. Formerly of 1314 Jackson Blvd., Rochester, she died at the nursing home at 6:05 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1987. She was the sister of Mrs. J. T. (Margaret) Frost, North Webster. Mrs. Summe was born on February 28, 1902, in Franklin Township, Kosciusko County, the daughter of Orlando and Pearl (Blue) Meredith. On December 25, 1920, she married A. Lloyd Summe in Mentone. He preceded her in death in May 1965. She was a homemaker and school teacher, having taught in the Culver and Sidney school systems for a number of years, was a former member of the

A resident for 30 years of the Rochester area, she had formerly lived in the Burket and Akron areas. Additional survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Ladonna) Rader, Akron, and Mrs. Robert (Wanda) Birmingham, Boca Raton, Fla.; one granddaughter, Candace Rader, Akron ; and four greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandson. Rev. Merlyn Cox officiated at the services with burial following in Akron Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation. Julia M. Reed Julia M. Reed, 86, Milford, died 12:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5,1987, in Goshen General Hospital following a lingering illness. Mrs. Reed was born in Elkhart on January 12,1901, the daughter of William and Agnes (Ponko) Mays. She was married to Robert G. Reed on September 18, 1918. He preceded her in death on April 28,1970. She had been employed in the offices of C. G. Conn Instrument Co. and Buescher Band Instrument Co., both in Elkhart, and in the Phend & Brown offices, Milford. She was a member of the Lutheran Evangelical Church of Goshen, a 40-year member of Kosciusko County Chapter 160 Order of the Eastern Star, past matron of the Eastern Star, member of the Thursday Afternoon Bridge Club, Elkhart Bridge Club, American Legion Auxiliary • of Milford of which she was a past president, and Sigma Omega Sigma of Elkhart. There are no survivors. Services were held Saturday, Nov. 7, at 11 a.m. in White Funeral Home, 221 West Lexington Ave., Elkhart, with Rev. Paul Tinkel, pastor of Milford First Brethren Church officiating. Burial followed in Rice Cemetery, Elkhart. An Eastern Star service was held at 9 p.m. Friday in Mishler Funeral Home, Milford, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at White Funeral Home. Lillie M. Miller was released from the hospital on Saturday, Nov. 7. He is now home and is doing quite well. STAN CUSTER RETURNS FROM MAYO CLINIC Stan Custer, 3 LaPoint Drive, Milford, has returned to his home after spending two weeks in the Mayo Clinic. He underwent various tests to determine what has been causing him to pass out. Doctors have found the lack of salt in his body has been the main problem, along with a low quantity of blood and a disorder which constricts the flow of blood through the veuels.
Mrs. Warner was born in Wolf Lake on May 29, 1895, the daughter of Elias and Clara (Thomas) Gray. On December 22, 1911, she married Russell A. Warner. .He preceded her in death irw9s9. She was a homemaker and member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, Syracuse. Surviving are three grandsons, Larry Warner, Wilcox, Ariz., Richard Warner, Middleburg, Fla., and James Warner, address unknown; one great-grandson, Jerry Warner, Sierra Vista, Ariz.; one great-great-grandson, Brian L. J. Warner, Sierra Vista, Ariz.; one sister, Ruth Tressler, Warsaw; and several nieces and nephews, all in the SyracuseWarsaw area. Preceding her in death were one son, Guy Warner, who died in 1971, three sisters, and two brothers. Rev. David Maish officiated at the services with burial following in Zion-Union Cemetery near Syracuse. Charles R. Sponseller Graveside services were held yesterday, Tuesday, Nov. 10, at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, for Charles R. Sponseller, 75, 1510 Berkeley St., Lansing, Mich. He died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1987, at 6:10 p.m. in the home of his daughter in Lansing. He was bom in Etna Green on March 18, 1912, the son of Henry and Ruby (Bitting) Sponseller. On April 29, 1936, he married Catherine M. Auer. She preceded him in death in March 1977. Sponseller had resided in Syracuse until 1957 when he moved to Lansing. After retiring as an insurance broker he moved back to Syracuse. A few months ago, he moved back to Lansing where he resided with his daughter. He was a retired insurance broker, attended Milford 'First Brethren Church, and was a member of the Kosciusko County Masonic Lodge 418 F&AM and .Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Fort Wayne. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Sue) Buck, Lansing, Mich.; one granddaughter; and one brother, Robert O. Sponseller, Warsaw. He was preceded in death by one brother. Rev. Paul D. Bette Coppes Cobb Bette Coppes Cobb, 57, formerly of Nappanee, died Sativday, Oct. 31,1987, after a short illness. She was born on November 19, 1929, to Waldo and Nellie (Ebeling) in New Paris. She had resided in Phoenix since 1970. On May 6,1977, she married Tom Cobb. He survives. Additional survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Carl (Mary) Wilson of Glendale, Ariz., Mrs. Jay (Cathleen) Robinette, Scottsdale, Ariz., and ValeneCoppes Maluyo, Haleiwa, Hawaii; two sons, David F. Coppes, Syracuse, and Charles Coppes, Glendale, Ariz.; four grandchildren; one sister, Alice Yeater Lamont, Aberdeen, Scotland; three brothers, W. She was born on November 29, 1922, at Petersburg, lowa. The former Mary Ann Kluesner was married to Elmer J. Luensmann on February 6, 1946, at Farley. He preceded her in death on November 18,1972. Joann Wallstead, 62, .Green Acres Trailer Court, r 7, Warsaw, died Wednesday, Nov. ' 4, 1987, at 1:45 p.m. in her home. She had been in ill health for one year. She was born on March 31, 1925, in Syracuse, the daughter of Arthur- and Elizabeth (Ulrey) Driidge. She married Phillip Wallstead on August 11, 1962, in Indianapolis. He survives. Mrs. Wallstead had been custom service representative for Armstrong Products and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and past member of the American Legion Auxiliary, both of Warsaw. Surviving with her husband are three sons, Nicholas A. Knoerzer, Lowell, Richard A. Knoerzer, Warsaw, and Phillip K. Wallstead, Baton Rouge, La.; one daughter, Jill Greer. He was born in Warsaw on August 14, 1943, the son of Theodore and Mildred (Kinney) Egolf. Egolf was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County. He was employed as a machine operator in the bindery department at R. R. Donnelley & Sons, Co. Surviving are two sons, James K. and Keith Egolf, both of War saw; two brothers, Jim and Dan Egolf, both of Warsaw; one sister, Martha Egolf, North Manchester; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Egolf, Atwood. Services were held this morning, Wednesday, at 10 a.m. in Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, with Rev. John Bell officiating. Burial was in Harrison Center Cemetery. Lois C. Sand Lois C. Sand, 77, formerly of r 1, Leesburg, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1987, at 11:45 a.m. in Mason Health Care Center. She was the mother of Kosciusko Circuit Court Judge Richard W. Sand. The daughter of Stanley and Daisy (Beigh) Cluen, she was born on March 3, 1910, in Claypool. On December 31, 1928, she married Willis R. Sand in Warsaw. He survives. Mrs. Sand was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County. She was a former employee of Kline’s Department Store for eight years and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband, Willis, who resides at Grace Village; two sons. Richard W. Goshen Hospital schedules CPR courses this week
Goshen General Hospital is offering a Cardio-Puimonary Resuscitation (CPR) Course using the American Heart Associaton guidelines. The class will be Friday, Nov. 13, from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 14, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Interested persons must be currently certified in CPR. The course will include demonstrations, a lecture on “The Art of Teaching,” participant presentations and critiquing. Upon successful completion of the course the participants will be certified instructors, eligible to instruct community CPR classes. To maintain certification, two classes must be taught each year. » It is necessary to register by Nov 11 by calling the education department of Goshen General Hospital, 533-2141, ext. 1104. Pre-

Pastor David Haifley, pastor of Grace Bible Church, Syracuse, will officiate and burial will be in Syracuse Cemetery. > Thomas Alberding Thomas Alberding, 36, Warsaw, died Tuesday, Nov. 10,1987, at 11:52 a.m. in Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, after being injured in a farming accident on September 12. Alberding was a farmer. Surviving are his wife, Martha; one son, Bill, at home; two daughters, Melissa and Melanie, both at home; his stepmother, Donna Johnson, Columbia City; four brothers; and five sisters.
