Jenny Co?, a 1976 graduate of Wawasee High School, has been named to the Purdue 500, a group of 500 undergraduates recognized for academic achievement at Purdue University. She is enrolled in the university’s school of technology. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James H. Cox, r 4 Syracuse. Mrs. R. C. Tytler of Syracuse was elected the new District Director of the North Central Division of the Garden Club of Indiana, Inc. The election took place at the district meeting held October 20 in Logansport. Operators at Curl’s Beauty Salon, Wawasee Village, Syracuse, attended hair-cutting classes in Grand Rapids, Mich., October 24-26. Operators left Syracuse October 23 and returned October 26. day evening, Nov. 7. This open house will be held from 6:J5 until 8:15 with a demonstration lunch being served between the house of 5:30 and 6:45. A Halloween party was part of the regular meeting of the Hex Grange, Syracuse, Tuesday night in the Grange hall. Master Kenneth Nicolai presided at the meeting when one candidate was favorably voted upon. Fourteen officers were among the 39 members present. There will be no election in Syracuse this year — all current town board members and town clerk-treasurer will retain their posts. Serving in Syracuse are Walter Calnon, clerk-treasurer; Byron Connolly, president; and members, Willard Nusbaum, Mrs. Frank (Blanche) Bates, Loren Longenbaugh and Vernon Bockman. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ryman of r 3 Syracuse have returned to their home following a month’s vacation at Thomasville, Ga. While there they visited their grandson, Lewis Ryman. Sidetrips were also made to Florida and Alabama. Mrs. Valerie Hughes, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hughes, Richard Hughes and LaMar Hughes, all of Syracuse, attended the 25th wedding anniversary party honoring Mr. and Mrs. James Hughes of r 2 Goshen last Tuesday evening. Monday. Jim and Dorothy Connolly, whose restaurant is well known for its good food and smorgasboard specialty, will assist the new owners during their first few weeks. Their plans when they finish their work there are as yet undecided. Fred and Maxine Cripe, the new owners, formerly were associated with the Miller Restaurant in Goshen. Town Board met in regular session Tuesday night. It was reported that the leak from the stand pipe on the hill has been corrected satisfactorily. It was also reported that installation of new parts at the pumping station is progressing. The contract for the erection of a shelter house at the B&O park was signed. Contract was awarded last week to Niles Brothers who submitted the low bid of the four bids received. The Niles bid was reported to he $1,005.93. Waters falling on the north side of the divide continue on their way until they finally reach the St. Lawrence River. Waters falling on the south, flow into various streams and eventually into the Gulf of Mexico. Peculiar as it may sound, the waters of Lake Wawasee care Northern and the waters of Lake Webster are considered southern. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Darr, Hartford City, spent the weekend in Syracuse. Mrs. Darr remained to visit Mrs. Vilma Hire this week. 9 Emergency landing BELLE CHASSE; LA. - One of the Air Force’s most exotic and secret airplanes made an unscheduled visit to the New Orleans area when it developed engine trouble over the Gulf of Mexico, officials said. The SR-71 reconnaissance plane landed at the Naval Air Station in Belle Chasse for repairs.
