Net income for the full nine months of this year was $111.6 million, or 30 percent greater than the $85.8 million reported for the same period in 1986. The third quarter 1986 net income was reduced by $12.3 million after tax as a result of writeoffs. cents and $2.50 for the first nine months of this year. This compares to 24 cents for the third quarter of 1986 and $1.64 for the nine month period ending September 30 of last year. The earnings per share reflect - the stock repurchase program started by the company in November of 1985. Dana’s board of directors declared a quarterly dividend of 36 cents per share continuing the $1.44 annual rate established in July of this year. This is Dana’s 200th consecutive quarterly dividend and it will be paid on December 15 to shareholders of record November 25. Dana increased its dividend on two occasions earlier this year, raising the annual dividend rate by 12.5 percent from $1.28 Jo the present $1.44 annual rate. For the nine months of this year, the record sales continue to reflect the increased market penetration in the original equipment vehicular markets reported in both the first and second quarters. Replacement parts sales to the automotive distribution market are nine percent ahead of last year and industrial original equipment and distribution parts sales show similar strength. Dana’s international and financial services operations have made significant contributions to the increased margins throughout the first three quarters of this year. Gerald K. Mitchel], chairman and chief executive officer, said, “Sales continue to run ahead of

last year and we will probably exceed $4 billion in sales for the first time in the company’s history. Throughout this year, Dana has increased market share by out performing the markets we supply The earnings through the first nine months of this year reflect the initial lower margins of new business and the costs associated with our accelerated programs to make Dana facilities world competitive. These programs are showing results and we are confident that they will result in higher profitability over time. “The dividend declared by the board of directors is a milestone in Dana’s history,” Mitchell continued. “For 50 years, Dana Corporation has recognized the importance of its shareholders by declaring a dividend in each of the 200 quarterly periods.” Dick Rice, plant manager at the Syracuse location, stated that the decline in the stock market recently affected the company just like everyone else. Whether it will affect anyone’s buying is too early to tell. The Dana Corporation in Syracuse manufactures axle components for light and heavy trucks.
