Maxine Smith Maxine Smith, 71, 513 North Huntington St., Syracuse, died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 1987, at 8:15 a.m. at Miller’s Merry Manor, Syracuse. ' She was born on October 20, 1915, in Syracuse, the daughter of Hallie and Clara (Brickel) Holloway. On May 9, ,1942, she - married Robert Smith. He survives. ' Mrs. Smith was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary of Syracuse. A lifetime Kosciusko County resident, she and her husband were owners/operators of Smith Electronics of Syracuse. Surviving along with her husband are two daughters, Mrs. Edward (Sharon) Leamon of Syracuse and Mrs. William (Linda) Cripe of Middlebury; one son, Gene Smith of Nappanee; six grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Marilyn Stummer of Nevada. Graveside services were held Friday, Oct. 16, at 10 a.m. in Syracuse Cemetery with Rev. Lester Young officiating. Harris Funeral Home, Syracuse, was in charge of arrangements. Dickerson, 81, r 4, Syracuse, died Thursday, Oct. 15, 1987, at 6:05 p.m. in Meridian Nursing Center, Elkhart, following a brief illness. He was bom on December 12, 1905, in Evansville, the son of William and Ella (James) Dickerson. His first marriage was to Buenola Bird on June 22, 1924. She died July 11, 1968. He later married Roine Welch on December 16, 1972, in Elkhart. She survives. Dickerson was a retired salesman. A winter resident of Englewood, Fla., he was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Englewood, member of lodge in Eau Claire, Wis., a 32nd degree Mason, and a Shriner. Surviving with his wife are one daughter, Janet Miller, Mishawaka, three stepsons, R. Dewey Welch, Elkhart, Joel M. Welch, Elkhart, and Randall S. Welch, South Bend; two grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren, and one brother, Claude C. Dickerson, Islamorada, Fla. He was preceded in death by one son and one granddaughter. died at 12 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1987, in the Americana Nursing Home in Elkhart following a long illness. Hamsher was born in Kosciusko County on March 28, 1925, the son of Frank and Genevieve (Goshotn) Hamsher. On October 27, 1945, he married Norma Sowers in Syracuse. She survives. He attended Pierceton High School, was a farmer and worked at Franklin Coach Co. in Nappanee. He was a member of the First Brethren Church of Nappanee. , Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Gerrold (Nancy) Neibert, Syracuse, and Mrs. Scott (Carol) Ammerman, Nappanee; two sons, Roger Hamsher and Richard Hamsher, both of Nappanee; five grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Charles (Elizabeth) Cone, Pierceton, and one brother, Clifford Hamsher, Nappanee. He was preceded in death by three brothers. Rev. Alvin Shifflett of the First Brethren Church, assisted by Rev. Roy Stem of the Church of the Brethren in Nappanee, officiated at the service which was held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, in Thompson & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. Murphy was born in Dublin on December 2, 1911, the son of Ira and Lola Mae Murphy. He was employed by Chrysler Corp in New Castle and was promoted to the International Representatives in UAW in the National Chrysler Dept, after working at various jobs in the New Castle level. He serviced the Dodge-Chicago Bomber plant during World War 11, then was promoted to chairman of International Committee where he served for eight years. In 1981, he resigned because of ill health. For 11 years she had worked at Syracuse Rubber Co. She and her husband operated the Syracuse Hardware Store for many years. She was a member of the Syracuse American Legion and Syracuse Eagles auxiliaries and had resided in the Syracuse area all her life. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Phillip (Renee) Rader, Auburn, and Mrs. Frederick (Natheta) Fisher, Jefferson City, Tenn.; three grandchildren; and one brother, Joe Line, Jr., of North Webster. She was bom on February 12, 1921, in Pennville. For 40 years, she resided in the LaGrange County area. She was a retired beautician, member of the Topeka Baptist Church, and served in the WACS during World War 11. Also surviving are one son, Stephen, and two daughters, Sondra Bentley and Stephanie Bentley, all of Harrisburg, Pa.; two grandchildren; three brothers, James Horn, Topeka, Joseph Hom, Evansville, and Charles Hora, Ligonier; and three additional sisters, Martha Wyatt, Howej Beverly Renkenberger, Kendallville, and Charlene Heintzelman, Cromwell.
