kids study and meet the teachers and guidance counselors. National Honor Society members served as guides and
refreshments were served during the evening. 'I Shown are Barbara Ray, Milford, being shown where her son, Mark’s, classrooms are by Lee Haney, a member of the honor society. THE NEW home of Dennis and Jeri Brown was set in place last week. It is located on the south side of Milford on Charles Bird Lane and Ulrich Drive. Currently the Browns and their daughter, who is in the first grade, are living in an apartment on Williams Street. Mrs. Brown works at NIA in Nappanee and Mr. Brown works at Dana in Syracuse. KENNETH HANEY reports he was “well pleased” with the response to his autumn woods tour and hayride last week. Over 100 persons visited Walnut Acres
and enjoyed the fall colors of the woods. SOMETHING NEW in modern history! Christopher Columbus landed in what was to become North America on October 12, 1492. The observance of this landing will actually be held on October 12 this year (won’t the school children be confused). It Just happens that the second Monday in October falls on the 12th. For those of our readers who have completely forgotten their history, Columbus sailed from Palos, Spain, on August 3, 1492, searching for India and the West Indies. He found, instead, what would become the East Indies and North America, landing on October 12 on Walting Island. NOW COMES a letter from Berniece Dwyer postmarked Honolulu. She relates the following good events and bad events
about her flight to the islands on September 29: “United’s Flight 1 was scheduli ed to depart O’Hare at 10:30 am. . for the 4,243-mile non-stop flight to Honolulu. Push-back of the B-747 began at 10:20 but after we had cleared the gate, it was discovered that the flight was short 50 meals. The captain announced that it would be I necessary to taxi back to the terminal. He quipped that for the B‘2-hour flight coming up it was essential to have adequate food aboard! "At 11:30, we were again pushed back from the gate and were soon airborne. Our route took us over Nebraska and Wyoming, leaving the West Coast north of San Francisco. “During the hour’s wait for the meals to arrive, the flight attendant announced that FAA regulations prohibited smoking while the plane was on the ground and at no time in the lavatories. Despite these earnest an-
i nouncernents, on three occasions, passengers went into the rest rooms to light up. “Three times the smoke alarms sounded, sending attendants running to locate the place and cause. “It is unfortunate that the FAA regulations did not require that these offenders be evicted from the flight then and there with no refund, of course! “There were 388 passengers aboard, 34 in first-class and 354 in coach. Twelve flight attendants worked feverishly during most of the nine-hour flight, serving food and beverages. Passengers with small children required extra attention. “At one point the announcement came for parents to please return to their seats to claim their frightened small child, dressed in pink, who had awakened. “Touch-down at Honolulu International Airport came at 8:15 p.m. Indiana time, 3:15 Honolulu time. The temperature was 88 degrees with brilliant sun and Kona winds at 20 mph. And. it was great to be back in Hawaii again!”

z We Thank Once again it is time to say how much we appreciate the Milford community for its continued 5 support of their volunteer fire department and helping to provide equipment to save homes and lives. Our chicken barbeque was a complete sell-out again this year. We are sorry that a few people who did not have tickets in advance had to be turned away. Milford Fire Department

LOOK UP in the sky. It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s Superman. No, it's a hot air balloon sailing over Milford on a crisp The balloon took off from the Robert Hollar farm on CR 600 and drifted over Milford around 7 a.m. Little is known about it except for the fact it belongs to a minister from Warsaw.
