saw Highlights of the program include in-store screening for potential medical problems, free health literature, active education programs on related medical topics and a speakers’ bureau. It was news last Wednesday around Hook’s that manager Larry Harter turned 30. As a result, Diane Marion, wife of Ben Franklin manager Bob Marion, baked and delivered to Larry a handsomely decorated cake. And other pranksters decorated his car in high nuptial style. Also in the center was an October 1 birthday of clerk Ellen Savoy, who wasn't revealing which one. Who would believe that this

area has a budding Polar Bear Club? Maybe not, but Jean (Mrs. Bill > Jones has begun a practice that could develop into such a chilling idea. We hear she takes a daily dip in Lake Wawasee in front of her home. Since they have taken in their pier, she goes to the end of her neighbors and goes down the ladder . . . ever so gingerly . . . until fully emersed. Reminded that the water is in the mid-sixties in temperature, Jean chatters her teeth and says, “Yeah, I know.” John R. Walker, former manager of First Charter Insurance Agency, is now assistant manager of the Singer Sewing Machine Co. branch in the Concord Mall. Word has been received that Julie Thibaut, a 1976 graduate of Wawasee High School, has received a scholarship. She will be presented with a Dukes Day Scholarship to study radiologytechnology at HISS (Indiana University) extension in Fort Wayne. Julie will receive her scholarship October 20 at the Pine Valley Country Club in Fort Wayne. 30 YEARS AGO, OCT. 4, 1967 Something new is being added

to this year’s Syracuse high school annual. Since this is the last year for the school to be in existence, an alumni section will be added. This edition will include a record of names of graduates of Syracuse high school since 1889. Miss Judy Bryan, daughter of John Bryan of Syracuse, has entered Purdue university, majoring in nursing at the regional campus at Fort Wayne. £ Mr. and Mrs. James Hann, Syracuse, entertained Sunday for Mr. and Mrs. Walter Grimes and sons, David and Walter, Jr., of Goshen and Mrs. Pearl Grimes of Syracuse.
