Wawasee runners whip CC

SYRACUSE — Wawasee’s boys’ cross country team dominated its meet with Columbia City, taking the top four positions, en route to its 17-43 nonconference victory over the Eagles. Steve Eastman and Jeff Carey paced the Warriors’ winning effort with identical finishes — 17:16. Meanwhile, Jason Douglas was third at 17:25 and Eric Mock, fourth, with a 17:34 time. Efforts wasted in loss

SYRACUSE - Wawasee received performances from Jenny Gilmore and Deea Clear Tuesday evening, but their efforts were in vain as Columbia City defeated the Warriors 15-8, 15-6, in high school girls’ volleyball. Katsanis advances to golf regional

SYRACUSE - Saturday’s Wawasee girls’ golf sectional proved disappointing for the host Warriors. Expected to challenge for the sectional crown, Wawasee slipped to fifth place with a 418 score. East Noble upset Culver Military for team honors, besting the girl cadets by one stroke, 377-378. Warsaw finished third, edging LaVille 414-415, and the Warriors shared fifth place with Tippecanoe Valley. Uoshen and West Noble rounded out the team scores at the Wawasee Golf Club. Although the Warriors failed to place as a team, Michelle Katsanis advanced into this weekend’s regional competition at LaPorte. The Wawasee junior scored an 87 and finished in the top three of golfers not advancing with in a team. North Wood’s Gina Yoder took medalist honors with her 76. Sandra Johnson, Plymouth was second low medalist, carding an 81. Jaren Fisher, East Noble shot an 84, good for third and Katsanis was fourth at 87. For Wawasee, besides Katsanis’ regional-qualifying round, the Warriors received a steady performance from Barb Butler. Butler finished at 97, while Teresa West struggled for a 114. Angie Kirkdorfer concluded play with a 120 and Darcey Smith shot a 123. Tee-off time for Katsanis and the rest of the regional field begins at 10 a m. at LaPorte's Beechwood Country Club. Lakeland soccer league action SYRACUSE — Six games highlighted last weekend’s Lakeland Youth Soccer action. In ‘A’ division games, State Bank of Syracuse defeated Kinro 3-0, while Laketronics doubled Cotton/Cotton Insurance, 6-3. Campbell's IGA of Milford bested Syracuse Rubber, 6-2. In ‘B' division play, Syracuse/Wawasee Rotary easily defeated Wawasee Kiwanis, 9-1 In the other games, Milford Kiwanis bested Sea Nymph 3-0, and Pace-Jaycees shutout Syracuse Lions, 4-0.

SYRACUSE — Culver Military Academy handed Wawasee its fifth loss of the season, dropping the hosts 198-213 in the Warriors’ regular season finale. Michelle Katsanis continued to sparkle for the Warriors, shooting a team-low 46. Barb Butler finished at 52, while Angie Kirkdorfer closed play at 53. Amanda Goff paced the visitors with a 43, five strokes better than teammate Dianna Ferguson. The loss drops the Warriors to 7-5 overall. Culver improved to 10-1.
