WJH captures 11th at invite
Eric Strieby finished 11th in the West Noble Invitational Saturday, Sept. 19, pacing Wawasee’s Junior High cross country team to the tpam championship. Strieby’s 10:46 nipped teammate Matt Johnson for team Triton defeated Matt Johnson and Eric Strieby tied for first place and Scott Wheat placed third as Wawasee’s Junior High cross country team defeated Triton 15-50. Johnson and Strieby finished in 11:25, while Wheat had a 11:34 clocking. Jeremy Sponseller was fourth at 11:46 with Jason Mock fifth with a 12:06 time. Other Warriors runners placing in the top 10 were Ryan Shoemaker, sixth (12:08); Jason Slabaugh, seventh (12:24); and Cris Lung, 10th ((13:47). In girls’ competition, Angie Garner placed second (12:52), Gina Minton, third (14:35) and Tiffany Titus, fourth (14:55) for the Warriors. Erin Titus was fifth (15:01), while Heather Mishler placed sixth (17:05) and Kelly Daugherty, seventh (18:13). Amy Pratt competed but was forced to the sidelines due to an injury.

LAKEVILLE - Jason Hollar won the third singles position and Wawasee’s two doubles team claimed victories as the Warriors won the LaVille Invitational Saturday, Sept. 19. Matt Koble and Adam Wilson joined efforts in the second doubles match to give the Warriors the win. Meanwhile, Wawasee’s top doubles team — Mike Leedy and Kermit Kropf — went to a third match before winning. The win by Leedy and Kropf secured the team championship for Wawasee. The Warriors’ top player, Bob Strombeck finished second in the competition.

Jennifer Titus placed 17th among 130 cross country runners Saturday, Sept. 19, as the Warriors finished 13th in the West Noble Invitational. Spikers fall NAPPANEE -NorthWood Panther’s girls’ volleyball team improved to 8-0 on the season with its 15-4, 15-9 victory over the visiting Wawasee Warriors. The Warriors’ JV squad also dropped a two-game decision to the Panthers. North Wood blitzed the Warriors 15-3,15-6. No other details were available.

Wawasee gains narrow win
SYRACUSE - Michelle Katsanis shot a team-low 46 Wednesday, Sept. 16, and Teresa West added 55 as the Warriors posted a 217-219 non-conference victory over Huntington North. Barb Butler shot a 56 for the Warriors, while Angie Kirkdorfer added a 60. Darcey Smith contributed a 63 and Audra Bouse, 73. In other girls’ action, the Warriors carded a 442 in the LaPorte Invitational, good for eighth place. Michigan City Rogers won the tournament with a 384. Wawasee was the lone Northern Lakes Conference school participating in the event. Barb Butler turned in the best round for Wawasee, shooting a 104. Katsanis shot 111, while Kirkdorfer finished at 113 and West, 114. Smith rounded out Wawasee’s scores with a 127.

SYRACUSE - Cindy Loucks picked up the 3-10 split twice during action in the Sept. 21 Monday Night Early Birds league. Cee Cee Swihart picked up the 2- while Becky Glessner converted the 3-10 and Lee Ann Paternoster hit the 4-7-10. In the Land-O-Lakes League, Ernest Knight converted the 3-10 and the 2-7-8 splits.
